The difference between Barry & Donald

WSJ’s James Freeman:

“Tuesday was in many ways a mirror image of the start of the previous presidency. Whereas Mr. Obama gave Republicans not the slightest incentive to try to cooperate, Mr. Trump just made it extremely difficult for Democrats in swing districts to keep pretending he’s Hitler.”

And WSJ commenter KennethGimbel:

“The Boy Wonder boasted about the power of his pen. [With his EOs] Trump is merely following Barry’s lead. Even more important, he has discovered the power of the eraser. Within one year Obama’s legacy will be an empty book. Quite fitting for an empty suit. The Obamas are reportedly about to sign a sixty million dollar two book deal. You will be able to locate  it in the humor/fiction/fantasy section on Amazon books or in  your local bookstore.”

Real news for a change

And from the NYTimes, too. It’s Fast & Furious again, but without guns.

The investigation and the looming racketeering trial will bring renewed scrutiny to the A.T.F., which has been buffeted in recent years by the botched gun-tracking operation known as Fast and Furious and its mismanagement of undercover investigations. Representative Jason Chaffetz, whose House oversight committee investigated Fast and Furious, asked the A.T.F. on Wednesday for reams of documents related to the secret tobacco account.”

President Trump, please abolish the ATF. They’re helping no one but themselves and their political cronies.

Trump was inevitable when the elite went absurd

Wretchardthe cat on why the elites are losing control of the country:

They “lost their mojo by becoming absurd. It happened on the road between cultural appropriation and transgender bathrooms.”

Meanwhile the NFL and NBA, neither of which will put up with gay players, despite what they pretend, is threatening to commit financial suicide over states like Texas and North Carolina refusing to legalize transgender bathrooms.

That Trump news gaggle

The early bits I saw reported, along with video clips of the Donald’s usual digressions and by-the-ways, made me cringe. I even put up a comment at Instapundit suggesting it would be wiser if Trump avoided these things as much as possible. (And was roundly shot at with both barrels at by his beloved.)

Then I read Rush Limbaugh’s transcript and laughed along with him. Trump is Trump. You either like him or you hate him. I like him, bombastic, New Yorker-style and all. Hey, this guy grew up in the Bronx. You expected smooth and sophisticated? What planet do you live on?

Even the WSJ editorial page liked it. And they did not support his nomination or his election. As WSJ commenter John Schwaebe put it: “Trump seemed to be talking directly to the people. Telling us what he and his staff were working on. Unfiltered, straight up  [with] no need for nuance.”

Nuance plainly is not the Donald’s thing. I might prefer a polite Southerner who was more subtle in twisting the knife. But most New Yorkers aren’t like that. Chicagoans, either. We forget that Obama also spent his early months attacking the news media, if mainly in the form of Fox News and Rush Limbaugh.

And even the latter didn’t pile on the hate for Hussein the way the MSM has done with Trump since he was nominated. And Barry, too, couldn’t handle extemporaneous very well. WSJ: “President Obama tended to filibuster at his press events, and he’d have reached perhaps the third question by the 60-minute mark.”

All in all, I decided, I liked the presser. “Bully Trumpet,” the WSJ headlined their editorial. Just so. And bully for Trump, too.
