Colder than a Dallas woman’s heart

We have a thin covering of ice and snow at the rancho where it’s 22 degrees F.

Glaciers advancing, not retreating

The carbon dioxide cult takes another hit in the mouth. Oh, the humanity!

Austin’s deep freeze

A second night of temps falling into the teens ahead, after having not gotten out of the mid-twenties all day. The elephant ears at the rancho have turned black and fallen on the ground, just like last year. Likewise the plumbago and the turk’s cap.

They’ll all grow back, they always have before. At least we’re not facing this blizzardification happening elsewhere, though the link is in Wisconsin, where they actually have radiators (and probably need them). But there are snow flurries in our forecast for Thursday night into Friday morning. Then, true to form, warming into the fifties on Saturday and Sunday. Come on, spring!

All set for the new poisonous lightbulbs

American_gothic_parodyYep, we’re ready to follow the new Green dictate on light bulbs. No more, uh, harmful bright incandescents. No, sirree, not for us. We’re not environmental baddies who want to harm the climate.

Give us those new mercury-filled, shadowy, compact fluorescent light bulbs any time. We’ll be sure to follow the government’s guidelines and shoo the children and pets out of the room should one ever break, spilling poisonous mercury on the furniture and the carpet.

Hey, we know it’s for the best. It’s for our own good here at the rancho. Our overpaid, undereducated career politicians in Congress and their toadies in the legacy media told us so. We’re in the very best of hands.

Welcome rain

KVUERadar1911Most of the heavy rain is off to the east of I-35, but at least it’s clearing the air around the rancho of juniper pollen. Probably not for more than a day, tho’.

Cedar fever

I’m dyin’ and I ain’t lyin’. Thursday’s juniper (also called mountain cedar) pollen count was the highest of the season, according to KVUE, which makes daily pollen counts.

Seems like it’s been going on forever but it’s only been about two weeks. Pity of it is, the only sure cure for this allergy is to move elsewhere. Wish I could. But it’ll be over soon.

UPDATE:  Or, maybe not. Friday saw the highest juniper pollen count in seven years, KVUE reported. It’s supposed to rain Saturday afternoon into the evening. It better, or I may just decide to lay down and die.
