Awaiting Wheat’s stone

This is the month the Oklahoma tombstone makers forecast they’d have OCS chum Russell Wheat’s marker up in Higgins, Texas. That was back in May when they had a granite shortage thanks to the Wuhan Virus and various lockdowns. Sure hope they don’t have to extend it to a later month.

Seems increasingly obvious that the virus should be called the Wuhan Virus and not some obscuring name like Covid 19 or the Coronavirus (which you presumably can get if you drink Corona beer).

Unvaxxed die

Lee, one of my OCS chums, has lost his daughter to the Wuhan virus, just a little over a month after her husband died of it. Neither were vaccinated. Both had co-morbidities. They leave two young daughters. Our hearts are broken.

Super Spreader?

Mr. Boy was home for the weekend to attend the Austin City Limits music festival at Zilker Park. He estimated that 100,000 others were there with him, shoulder to shoulder, some masked many not. He’s been vaxed with the Pfizer twice, so he wasn’t worried, but whether he should have been remains to be seen.

Delta’s bright spot

[S]aid Robert Colgrove, interim chief of infectious diseases at Mount Auburn Hospital and an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. “A welcome development is that totally vaccinated, frail older people with medical conditions — even among them we’re seeing very few hospitalizations, unlike in the first couple of pre-vaccine waves of the epidemic when there were just enormous amounts of very, very sick [elderly] people.”

But Lambda is on the way and there are more than a dozen other variants of potential concern.

Son-in-law died

Lee, one of my OCS buds, lost his son-in-law to Covid this evening. His daughter, who is also on a ventilator, is still hanging in there. Son-in-law had co-morbidities with lung problems. Pretty deadly for a lung disease. At least he’s in a better place now, though it will be hard for his wife (when she finds out) and other relatives.

UPDATE: Not long after, his wife, Lee’s daughter, also transitioned as the docs were trying to wean her off the ventilator. Heartbreak all around, especially for their two children. At least they’re together again.

The endless pandemic

Booster shots for the first world and not enough 1 and 2 series for the third world could mean an endless pandemic as the third world keeps covid alive and thriving. (As well as mutating.)

“…those that are left behind can actually drive the pandemic forward,” says WHO. “The virus will not go away in any way, shape or form and we will not find a way to live alongside the virus.”

Swell.

Drawing the black bean

Daughter and son-in-law of an OCS friend are in the hospital in Georgia with Covid 2. She’s not doing well and is facing a ventilator. The dreaded ventilator. Off of which most do not come before passing.

The black bean drawing is an old Texas saying that stems from the 1843 capture of some Texans and would be Texans who were fighting off a Mexico invasion of the then-Republic of Texas. Drawing a black bean meant they would be executed.
