Worst political class in American history

I’ll buy that. And I especially agree with the truth of this:

“The American people are less prejudiced, more globally aware and more willing to meet other cultures and societies halfway than ever before. Minorities today are better protected in law and more fairly treated by the public than ever in our history.

“No previous generation has been as determined to give women a fair chance in life, or to attack the foul legacy of racism. The American people have never been as religiously tolerant as they are today, as concerned about the environment, or more willing to make sacrifices around the world to promote the peace and well being of humanity as a whole.”

All of which, by contrast, just shows how ill-equipped Obamalot and the other race-card-playing dimwits of our political class are to lead.

Rockin’ Roku

My Valentine’s gift to Mrs. Charm, a Roku XD, was a hit. She likes Masterpiece Theater and similar Brit stuff, but isn’t always available when the local channel decides to run them. Now, with the various streaming video channels the Roku offers, she can choose her own time. One more reason to read Instapundit.

Could Washington shut down the Internet?

You know, like the Egyptian government did during the riots? Probably, if it wanted to, but there’d be an enormous economic and political cost:

“The next few decades will likely be a contest in which the outcome depends on who is exaggerating more: those proclaiming the potential of new technologies, or those proclaiming the power of governments to constrain them.”

So said the Instapundit, in a law review paper five years ago. Worth a read. Download is free.

Plus, ways to fight back, from dial-up (shutting down the whole phone system is harder, even for a government), to shortwave radio.

Libertarian angst

“Well, based on the past two years I’d vote for a syphilitic camel if he ran against Obama.”

Reverse plagiarism

When I was in college many moons ago, reverse plagiarism was fairly popular. It means making up a pertinent quote to fit whatever test essay you were writing and attributing the quote to a famous person.

Hopefully a famous someone the professor wasn’t familiar with. It seems that the folks who were most adept at it are now plying their talents on the Web.

Democrat deficits

DeficitsThe best reason of all to vote the bums out in November. They whined about Bush’s deficit spending on Iraq and Afghanistan, then look what happened to the deficit when they took over the budget process in 2008. Va-va-voom!

Instalanch for Knoxville 1863

Good old Glenn Reynolds, the Instapundit, acknowledged the review copy I sent him of the historical novel and he posted its title and Amazon link this morning. Thanks, Glenn.

Only problem for me is that he posted the link to the Lulu-distributed edition, for which I get pennies on the dollar, instead of the CreateSpace-distributed one, for which I get a lot more.

But some click-throughs are noticing that the CS one is about half as costly, and they’re buying it. And the ebook also is selling. It is (as of this moment) ranked No. 56 in Historical Fiction for the Kindle. Yee-haw!
