Holocaust Remembrance Day

Jay Rubin, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin, in his latest newsletter, has an appropriate reason why some Gentiles, especially, need to pause and honor the millions of innocent Holocaust dead this April 11th:

“… the end of the Holocaust [was] the beginning of a process to memorialize victims, rebuild shattered lives, punish perpetrators and educate bystanders.  The process … is no less important in an era when the leaders of Iran threaten the Jewish people with genocide and a local letter writer in Friday’s Austin American-Statesman portrays Israelis and ‘Zionists in America’ as modern day Nazis advocating ‘a final solution’ for the Palestinians.”

Even those without ignorant views could benefit from a close reading of such as this recent article about a survivor and this fine, older book by another. Or a careful look at these surviving children. Or the banality of evil in the satisfied grins of these real Nazis, SS taking a break from another hard day of murdering—not an Israeli or a Zionist among them.

Democrats deserve a choice too

I’ve always enjoyed reading/listening to Mickey Kaus, formerly of Slate’s Kausfiles. Now I wish I could vote for him for Congress. Although to do it I would have to live in California. Uh, uh. He doesn’t have anything against his incumbent opponent, Barbara Boxer, other than that she’s in bed with the unions and all for creating another wave of illegal immigration from Mexico to further suppress low-skill wages for citizens. Me, in addition to those policies, I can’t stand her whiny voice. Mickey has a nice, almost soothing voice, and lots of common sense, something you don’t often see in a Harvard grad, and something the Dumbocrats could use a lot more of.

Behave yourself

That’s the slogan on the mousepad Sister Mary Martha sells for $15 on the blog “Ask Sister Mary Martha,” a sort of tough-love Dear Abby. (And, quite possibly, the only nun in Marina del Ray.)

If you’re not in the market for a mousepad with the face of a Roman Catholic nun on it (whatever it says) I think you will nevertheless like the blog as much as I do. Just don’t expect any sympathy. SMM is tougher than some rabbis I know.

Black patriots in Congress

True leaders. Long before the current indolent crop of race-baiters and thieves.

Those nefarious tea partiers…

“…first of all they are not all Republicans, 43% of people who identify themselves as members of the Tea Party movement are Independents, Democrats (plus 1% other). More than a third of tea party members consider themselves, liberals or moderates.”

And other things the legacy media isn’t telling.
