Saving the planet by destroying the economy

President Wormtongue’s new “executive order” (read dictator’s fiat) to put new restrictions on power plant carbon emissions will hike unemployment by raising the cost of doing business, i.e. increasing the cost of electricity.

Just like his party’s tax increases which are restraining consumer spending, but have been hidden by federal (read Democrat) manipulation of the data.

Not to mention Wormtongue’s own manipulation of climate “science.”

All of which amazes me, frankly, because back when I voted Democrat the party wasn’t this stupid. They tried to lower unemployment, not raise it. They tried to encourage business, not penalize it. They wanted general prosperity for all, not more welfare and food stamps. But, then, they didn’t send cretins to the White House just because their skin was the preferred color.

Free at last, free at last…

For almost fifty years, the  electoral rules of Texas and seven other states have been chained to the federal government’s whim, particularly the Democrat Party’s whim, since the Democrat Party is the political party of a clear majority of the federal bureaucrats who make the rules.

The chains came off the other day with a Scotus ruling and the Democrats immediately cried foul, along with the usual race mongers who are still fighting Jim Crow decades after its wings came off, as they should have, and did. It’s just politically convenient for the Democrat Party to keep up the fiction that black and other minority rights are still at risk unless the feds control the rules. Cobb has a nice summary:

“Those states, Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia have essentially been on probation for fifty years. Now they can change their laws without special oversight from the Federal Government.

“It probably comes as no surprise that these are all ‘red’ states that voted for Romney in 2012. Well, Virginia was a ‘blue’ state. And similarly comes as no surprise that these [were] all slave states. No, wait, Alaska wasn’t a slave state, neither was Arizona. In fact, no black man was ever even lynched in Arizona. Hmm. Well let’s not get too specific in categorizing them – they were all highlighted as the most racist states hostile to blacks. But Arkansas and Massachussetts were not included. And wasn’t it Florida that was doing the voter disenfranchisement?

“If you see the inconsistency here, then you should understand the simple reason I don’t find a particularly foul odor emanating from the Supreme Court while plenty of folks I see are turning up their noses today.”

Texas Attorney General Gregg Abbott celebrated the decision by immediately imposing the voter i.d. requirement passed by the state legislature but overruled by the feds’ “justice” department. Why, yes, the very same Democrat “justice” department that’s been wiretapping the news media.

The Democrat Party is opposed to voter i.d., supposedly because it discriminates against minorities who are too lazy or too stupid to get a photo i.d. although a photo i.d. is required to get you into any federal building anywhere. And now Texas will issue free ones for the hopeless—if they can prove residency with a recent electric bill.

Mob rule

The Democrat mob, that is, in the gallery of the Texas Senate which last night shouted down last-minute voting on a hated abortion regulation so that the special session concluded without it.

“The bill would ban abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy and force many clinics that perform the procedure to upgrade their facilities and be classified as ambulatory surgical centers. Also, doctors would be required to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles — a tall order in rural communities.”

The Democrats, of course, object to any restriction on abortion or abortion mills. They’ve got to be able to murder babies right up to the currently allowable 28 weeks of pregnancy, and under any conditions, or else it’s a “war on women.”

Just like our lyin’ President Wormtongue in his hubris has to be able to singlehandedly make legislation to hike all of our electric bills to “save the planet” when there’s “no time to have a meeting of the flat earth society.” From the mob to a dictator is a short step and the Democrats have taken it.

UPDATE:  Dictators, of course, like their mobs: “Something special is happening in Austin tonight,” he (or, more likely, his minions) tweeted.

MORE:  Ha, ha. Gov. Perry has called the Legislature back into special session starting Monday to pass the abortion bill. Something tells me they’ll get it done this time, mob or no mob.

The ObamaCare catastrophe

Primary care doctors (the first ones you see when you’re sick) already are in short supply so the fed’s October-materializing mandated service to all comers will inevitably cause longer delays for everyone.

Meanwhile, the healthy young who supposedly are going to be funding this new bureaucratic nightmare have no reason to do so: “…why would they sign up [to pay an estimated $5,800 a year], especially since the alleged penalties will be negligible and likely unenforced?” Why, indeed.

Remember Sarah Palin’s assertion that there would be “death panels” to decide when old people had lived long enough? Wormtongue’s minions swore it wasn’t true and the Democrat news media piled on. Well, guess what? There will be a panel and it will make life and death decisions.

The IPAB’s godlike powers are not accidental. Its goal, conspicuously proclaimed by the Obama administration, is to control Medicare spending in ways that are insulated from the political process.”

About the only good thing to come out of ObamaCare, so far, is the number of doctors abandoning health insurance altogether and lowering their prices.

The worst thing to come? Surely it will be management of the old private and new public health insurance system by the corruptible Internal Revenue Service. You think they’re hated and distrusted now? Just wait…

“…the IRS can barely manage what it already has to do (and that’s a generous characterization given its unlawful targeting of conservative groups). The prospect of the IRS taking a central role in the administration of ObamaCare can only be described as scary.”

Meanwhile, the brilliant guy who rubber-stamped this sucker is off to Africa as part of his and Mooch’s endless series of vacations, this time spending a cool $100 million of our tax money. They know a sweet deal when they see one!

As Instapundit says, the country is in the very best of hands.

If only grandma’d been aborted…

Cheery Chelsea Clinton is every bit as loquacious as her daddy the Groper. But maybe not quite as, shall we say, um, precise.

Chelsea says her mom was the daughter of a woman whose unwed teenage parents had no place like Planned Parenthood to go to for help. For help?

In effect, Chelsea is saying her grandmother should have been aborted. In which case there’d be no Lady Macbeth and no Chelsea.

Well, Chelsea did go to journalism school. They don’t generally get the brightest bulbs in the marquee.

New Iran guy same as the old Iran guy

Mamoud-the-Mad is gone, but his Iranian replacement will be better only if you believe in the Tooth Fairy, or Wormtongue’s pretend optimism about somehow, someday, finally making friends with Iran.

The new guy may not be a blathering buffoon but he’s otherwise pretty much same as the old guy. And how could he not be given how Iran’s “democracy,” actually a theocratic dictatorship, really works?

“…Khamenei, Iran’s actual tyrannical ruler, wasn’t elected. He was hand-picked by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. And Khamenei and his claque of appointed jurists hand-picked all the presidential candidates who just stood for election. Those they didn’t approve of (and they were legion) did not get to run…

“[New President] Rowhani has a track record of thuggishness abroad as well as at home. John-Paul Pagano dug up some old reports from Iranian state media detailing Rowhani’s support for the region’s terrorist organizations…”

Funny how this stuff gets overlooked by the usual claque of international pundits, not to mention our ever-dissembling president and his crack team of news media stenographers.

What difference does it make?

There’s your run-of-the-mill lyin’, stealin’ and backstabbin’ politician and then there’s Shillary, or Lady Macbeth, who knows that she and her husband the Groper have such (undue) power and influence that she can tell an inquiring congress critter “What difference does it make?” and he and his cronies won’t even dare to follow up the question.

It’s a pity that the first black president turned out to be a dishonest clown no one with any sense will ever trust again. The first woman president is likely to be a lot worse.
