Sunscreen too “toxic” for San Antonio

I’ve always thought it rather silly the way Texas mothers slathered on the sunscreen whenever their little darlings ventured into the sun, noonday or otherwise, all in the name of preventing skin cancer. Going the pioneers one better: they only wore long woolen trousers and shirts and broad-brimmed hats to keep their skin pristine.

But troglodyte that I am, I grew used to sunscreen as Mrs. Charm joined the crowd with young Mr. B, starting in pre-school and continuing to the present and his status as a rising high school freshman. Little did she know. The second-largest public school district in San Antonio has now banned sunscreen as “dangerous.”

“Sunscreen is a toxic substance, and we can’t allow toxic substances to be in our school[s],” said North East Independent District spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor. “They could possibly have an allergic reaction [or] they could ingest it. It’s really a dangerous situation.”

Which suggests to me that either the threat of skin cancer was overblown all along or the school district really does deserve its Nanny-of-the-Month award from Reason Magazine.

Rule 5: Katherine Roll

Rule 5: Alizee

Not really a fan of her tatoos (one is Disney’s Snow White) but can’t argue with the 100-plus hits her various pix bring in here every day, especially this old phony. I guess we’ll just have to hope she doesn’t go the way of Sinead O.

Paying terrorism’s bills

That’s us, the last-to-know, first-to-go American taxpayer, who is taken for a ride by every pol with an agenda. And Obamalot’s agenda is “the peace process” which isn’t a process and after decades of diddling hasn’t produced any peace.

So now it’s going to foot the bills for the terrorist group Hamas.

“…American taxpayers…will now be directly covering the salaries of thousands of card-carrying members of a terrorist organization. It’s not just Obama who will be crossing a red line by funding Hamas—he’s dragging the rest of us along with him into a political and moral swamp, in which America will combat terrorism with one hand, while paying for terror with the other.”

Which leaves only Congress to stop this appeasement madness. The fox guarding the hen house. Oh, yeah, that’ll work.

Trigger Warning

I should probably make the headline a permanent sidebar hereabouts ( like the Everlasting Phelps did) for the precious little buttercups who might be, gasp, offended by something here. Altho the “I (heart) Israel” notice might be enuff.

I have to admit I always thought a trigger warning was a) not to put your finger on the trigger until you intended to fire the gun or b) to be prepared to be shot when you saw someone else’s finger on the trigger of a gun pointed at you. I guess you had to go to Leftist schools like UC Berkeley to know better. Live and learn.

Marty Robbins: Gangsta Rapper

martyrobbinselpaso

Woke up the other morning inexplicably humming this Marty Robbins oldie, a big hit in 1960, which, of course, you never hear on the radio any more but sure ’nuff did way back then.

I wonder if Scott Chaffin does that from time to time, stirring from a doze in his box seat at the baseball diamond in the sky? Would not be surprised. It was Scott’s idea to include Robbins in the Gangsta Rapper Pantheon. Works for me.

I love the idea that the character of “wicked Felina” was adapted from a girl Robbins had a crush on in fifth grade. As they say, write what you know.

Capitalism vs Socialism

Wormtongue’s persistent complaints about inequality of income and/or wealth—you, know, the 1 percent and all that Lefty humbug—is based on such as French socialist economist Thomas Piketty’s book “Capitalism In The 21st Century.”

Comes now a Financial Times review of the book to say that not only did Piketty misinterpret his own data, but he appears to have exaggerated it to make the inequality worse than it really is. Boy, now there’s a surprise.

Meanwhile, while the Worm bashes the folks whose private investments actually create jobs, his prime constituency, black Americans, have the worst employment prospects of all.

UPDATE:  Others also have noticed Piketty’s errors.
