Rainy day at the Alamo

I’m glad to see there’s an Alamo cam again. I thought it had disappeared after the book store it was in went out of business. Not sure where this one is. Much the same angle as the old one, however. For best results, refresh the screen every so often.

Winecup

One of the prettier wildflowers of Texas, becoming rather commonly planted in flowerbeds these days. Birds, or maybe cowboys (some say it’s called the Cowboy Rose), have scattered its seeds, so that it can be found throughout North Dakota and Utah down to Texas.

In the Texas Rangers we trust

"There’s two people I trust, God and the Texas Rangers, and God was busy." –State Rep David Swinford, of Dumas, north of Amarillo, in the Texas Panhandle, explaining his proposal to move a criminal database from the governor’s office to the control of the Texas Rangers.

Bluebonnet mania

WildseedFarms0001.JPG

I meant to get a panoramic shot of rolling hills of massed blue this year, but I got busy with other things and now the hillside bluebonnets nearby are fading. Fortunately, I still have this shot of a flower bed at Wildseed Farms, mixing heretical red and white bluebonnets with the real blue ones.

Water, water everywhere

LakeTravis1.JPG

Anderson Mill Marina on Lake Travis is back to normal after all the recent rain. Until a few weeks ago, however, it looked like this, which is what it had looked like since last summer thanks to the drought which now seems to be pretty much over. Lakes and aquifers are up. Goodbye to dry.

RoboCow

West of Austin is Johnson City, the town LBJ’s ancestors settled, and where he grew up. West of Johnson City is this mammoth chrome longhorn cow standing sentinal over the highway to Stonewall and points west. This is someone’s idea of art. It certainly is an arresting sight.
