The Democrat economy starts to bite

Where have all of Wal-Mart’s customers gone?

“If Walmart sales don’t recover in the next few months, we may be in for a bumpy ride.”

Wouldn’t surprise me a bit.

UPDATE:  The “mysterious” rise in gasoline prices isn’t helping. Those racist oil companies must be trying to make King Putz look bad. They should pass a law or sumthin’.

A sure way to kill jobs

For all his boilerplate rhetoric last night about “growing jobs,” King Putz has a sure-fire way to kill a lot of jobs: raising the minimum wage to $9 an hour. Yep, that’ll do it. The burger flippers, the pizza makers, and the retail clerks will find their jobs going, going, gone.

I mean, if it was really so simple, by just waving a magic wand, why not raise them to $50 an hour? Probably because even the corrupt Democrats know what they’re doing and don’t want it to be any worse than it’s going to be. And it’s going to be bad, even if it does bring in more sucker votes for them in 2014, which is their motive.

UPDATE:  It’s nice to see that Speaker Boehner has the guts to just say no.

“When you raise the price of employment, guess what happens? You get less of it,” the Ohio Republican said in a news conference today in Washington. “Why do we want to make it harder for small employers to hire people?”

No Democrat voters are likely to thank him for it, but he’s certainly doing the low-wage ones a favor.

Wind and solar mean burning trees and smog

Reliance on wind and solar, both heavily subsidized by tax money but still undependable and ruinously expensive for consumers, is denuding parks in Germany and Greece and creating air pollution.

“Both countries are reporting that trees are disappearing from forests and parks as ‘impoverished residents, too broke to pay for electricity or fuel, turn to fireplaces and wood stoves for heat.’

“In Germany, Der Spiegel blames high energy costs for a rise in tree thefts and wood-burning stove purchases: ‘Germans bought 400,000 such stoves in 2011, the German magazine FOCUS reported this week. It marks the continuation of a trend: The number of Germans buying heating devices that burn wood and coal has grown steadily since 2005.’

“Similarly, the Wall Street Journal reports that in Greece: ‘As winter temperatures bite, that trend is dealing a serious blow to the environment, as hillsides are denuded of timber and smog from fires clouds the air in Athens and other cities, posing risks to public health.'”

We can expect these trends to come to the USA when King Putz and his Progressive and Green cronies get finished banning coal-fired power plants, thereby significantly raising the price of electricity.

Smog and denuded parks, coming to a town near you. Fortunately, here in Centex, we have plenty of mesquite to burn. A more or less endless supply, but the air won’t be so breathable anymore.

Barry kills more jobs

This time it’s the loss of an estimated 3,900 direct and indirect jobs for construction of a new coal-fired electric power plant in Corpus Christi. Barry’s EPA doesn’t like coal, remember, so they killed the permit for the project, despite the fact that most 42 percent of American electricity is created by burning coal.

I suppose the EPA would rather folks in Corpus cut back on their use of electricity or else hook up to such intermittent (and very expensive) power sources as wind generators and inefficient solar cells. More likely, though, the bureaucrats simply don’t care. D.C. is enjoying an economic boom on our taxes, though it’s mainly the pols and the rest of the 1 percent who are rolling in the dough.

UPDATE:  This is only the latest Texas power plant to be closed by King Putz’s EPA. Five others also are on the block. One in Pasadena, one in Lone Star, two in Mount Pleasant and one in Pittsburg.

An oldie but a goodie

I was opposed to King Barry’s second term, partly because I don’t think any politician should have a second term. Particularly not our current crop of mental and ethical incompetents. It would solve a lot of problems.

The Hebrew, on a bumper sticker that was popular in Israel in 2007 reads: “Diapers and politicians should be replaced frequently and for the same reason.”

(Hack propagandist/journalists like Bob Schieffer should be added to the list also.)

Say three Hail Michelle’s Full of Disgrace

And call Barry’s answering machine in the morning. One of his minions will get back to you. Eventually. Hint: A donation might hurry it up. By a week or so.

How to kill a faltering economy

Barry & The Dems sure know how to do it: Their new “deal” means higher taxes on 80 percent of households making between $50,000 and $200,000 a year.

Enjoy the job hunt, all you suckers who voted for them. Or maybe you can get on welfare, if you’re not already on it. Until the rising deficit bankrupts the country. At least their pals in L.A. got a tax break. So important.

UPDATE:  There seems to be plenty of media disagreement about the effect of this deal. Bloomberg news, at the link in the first paragraph above, reports the tax hits, the daily says (implausibly) that there will be no tax hikes, and Reason Magazine says taxes will only go up for those making payroll wages over $113,000. Maybe it’s one of those Nancy Pelosi deals: We’ll just have to wait until the media actually reads it before we’ll know what’s in it.
