Goodbye, Eva

My step-daughter’s kitty Eva was put down the other night by an ER vet who said she had few red blood cells and most likely had cancer. Her boyfriend was with her and she described how as Eva was going under she reached for them both making biscuits as it’s called with her paws.

She knew she was going home and wanted to say goodbye. Adios, Eva.

Covid alone is 6 percent

Or about 10,000. That’s how many of the 150+ thousand deaths recorded have died from Covid alone, according to the CDC. The rest had multiple health problems and/or old age.

Or as Instapundit puts it:  “COVID-19 kills the walking dead and almost nobody else”

Poldark

Finally finished the Aidan Turner-Eleanor Tomlinson PBS version of Poldark, about Cornish miners and the local elite in 18th century England. But the resolution of the various stories confused me a bit, so I may have to watch the final episode again. Pity it’s over but maybe the principals had other work, or the audience was declining. Mrs. Charm was watching it before she passed away.

Meanwhile, I’ve been following the careers of Turner and Tomlinson, for the first time of following actors. Watched a new movie Love Wedding Repeat on Netflix with Tomlinson (and as an added attraction Jack Farthing of Poldark) that was entertainingly comic. Turner, who played Kili the dwarf in the Hobbit, also is in something new that hasn’t been released yet. I’ll be sure to catch it. They’re both very good as was most of P.’s cast.

Joseph J. Grano

Here’s our former OCS Tactical Officer, a self-made millionaire and acknowledged Wall Street titan, discussing his 2009 book on C-SPAN that year.

The title of the book is very apt, for him, too, since none of us could have predicted what he’d become. For instance, his 2016 sale of his 30,000-square-foot estate for $45 million.

“Property taxes on the estate are $123,203 a year.”

Congratulations, Lieutenant, and former Candidate, yourself.

HCQ game changer

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and others are asking the FDA to clarify its opposition to HCQ as a Covid treatment for high-risk outpatients, and President Trump is joining in. Its widespread use in the non-Anglo world and the fact it’s cheap are arguments in its favor.

“Clearly, President Trump has not given up on the potential this drug combination may hold. Dr. Risch’s assessment is clear. For high-risk patients over 65 or with pre-existing conditions, the outpatient use of the hydroxychloroquine, zinc, and azithromycin combination has shown a significant reduction in hospitalizations and death rates.

“He asserts that we have let politics overrule science, and it is costing thousands of lives. Hopefully, senators pressuring the FDA will cause significant movement and clarity. The FDA owes its response by the end of business tomorrow. If the misinformation can be effectively cleared up, it will be a game-changer. The senators must continue to press the FDA and restore the doctor-patient relationship.”

Based in part from the questions I get from my readers, and in part from conversations with people who have told me of their own mistakes, as well as those I made on the way here, I have decided to put together my list of the top three 1st carry gun mistakes people make. As guns are expensive, and buying one that is inappropriate for the task of concealed carry is hard for some people to correct, I hope this list will help people when they are about to make their first purchase of a concealed carry handgun.
Small Gun Fixation

One thing that people tend to give an excessive amount of focus on is in finding the tiniest gun possible for concealed carry. True enough, you can carry one of these dinky little semi-auto handguns in a pocket and no one will be aware. But you do need to…
