The worst thing you can do is stand still

Or hide under something.

That’s the advice from PJMedia gun columnist Jeff Sanders on dealing with an active shooter. Of course it’s easy to say what you should do. Only when confronted (by surprise!) can you know what you would do.

“MOVE!…Keep moving and you will increase your chances of survival. And if you run away, you will become a smaller target. The worst thing to do is stand still.”

Or shelter in place as the current official advice has it. Disperse. Run for your lives. The perp is likely a lousy shot and there’s nothing harder than hitting a moving target, as soldiers learn in combat.

“So… remember to do something, anything, to throw off the attacker’s plans. If dozens of people are running away in dozens of directions at the same time, he cannot focus on all of you.”

If you must shelter in place, barricade the door with something heavy. Or tie a tie or a belt around the doorknob and hold it at an angle from the door which makes entry impossible. If you must, fight back. Throw something at him, distract him. He’s very likely a coward to begin with who is not expecting a fight.

Rule 5: Ashley Graham

Good to Gab

Even if PayPal has rejected them and Big (Leftist) Tech is out to destroy them. All because of anti-Jew murderer Bowers’ involvement. But you’re not forced on Gab to pay attention to the Bow-wow-Bowers anymore than you are on Twitter, Facebook or the other regularly-censored liberal Dimocrat platforms.

I joined Gab for its lack of censorship, because the answer to hate speech is not censorship but more speech. You should join Gab too.

UPDATE: Sleazy bastards! Now Joyent, their ISP, has been intimidated to drop them. “We have been systematically no-platformed by App Stores, multiple hosting providers, and several payment processors. We have been smeared by the mainstream media for defending free expression and individual liberty for all people and for working with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served for the horrible atrocity committed in Pittsburgh….Gab will be inaccessible for a period of time. We are working around the clock to get Gab.com back online. Thank you and remember to speak freely.” You betcha!

MORE:  As usual, Breitbart has more detail on the censorship of Gab than other outlets more concerned with political narrative than good reporting. That’s one reason the news media club hates Breitbart.

The Synagogue Murderer

Is as anti-Trump as he is anti-Jew.

He rails and retweets here at his Gab dot com alternative to Twitter before it was wiped. He is a hard-core hater with a license to carry concealed, for which he passed an FBI background check, and no respect for Trump whom he thinks is controlled by Jews in “a kike infestation.”

But don’t let that stop you from believing Robert Bowers’ is just one more bad example of what the Trump presidency has wrought.

The Synagogue Shooting

It was inevitable was my first thought. After all there already have been multiple mosque and church shootings. After I found out it was a conservative shul, I was a little surprised to learn they didn’t have better security. But then my own reform synagogue only has obvious security on the high holy days.

We’re just fortunate to be in a gated community that theoretically would catch a non-member. Theoretically. Our gate keepers are none too careful and seem to let vehicles without stickers through with only minor chat with the driver. And the stickers would be easy enough to steal.

But you can’t lock down a house of worship, especially in these times of scant membership of all religious stripes. You can’t make them hard to get into. What you can do, with a little thought and preparation, is have a congregant or congregants who carry concealed. Someone bold enough to shoot back when needed. But that’s a tall order, whatever the faith.

Mrs Charm’s latest awardees

We get their thank-you letters. One in 2017 and two this year. Two Hispanics and one apparent black. I dislike confining the awardees to minorities but Mrs. C. might not and the University of Texas journalism scholarship is in her name not mine.

As I said in a comment back in 2016 when the scholarship went live, “Journalism was my living and I’m glad its over but it was more than that to Mrs. C and the scholarship is to honor her not me. What sort of journalist it helps produce remains to be seen. Hopefully an objective one. Not all of them are screaming leftists.”

I found it amusing that this year’s awardees were very different in their thank-yous. One was verbose, going on for several pages, mainly about herself (they are both women) while the other was succinct. She boiled it down to one page and spent as much space commenting on Mrs. C. as on herself. I liked the succinct one best.

Cesar Sayoc, 56, charged for bombs

The South Florida man was caught out with DNA recovered from one of the pipe bombs and he has a long criminal history. His white van was covered with Trump stickers and slay-your-enemy slogans. He was none too careful, obviously.

UPDATE: He’s a former New Yorker and an amateur body-builder, sometime male stripper and booking agent for male strippers. Sounds gay but no confirmation of that yet. A registered Republican with long voting history.
