Obumbles: all tricks, no treat

PJMedia’s Richard Fernandez does nice summaries sometimes and this one on our suspected-but-highly-unlikely Muslim president is a gem:

“The man has single handedly trashed the entire Arab world. Consider. The Muslim Brotherhood is hunted in Egypt, which is about to starve.. Libya is a Mad Max state. People are killing each other for all they are worth in Syria. Jordan and Lebanon are overrun by refugees. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states are on the brink. Iraq has slid back into chaos. Afghanistan is due to be handed back to the Taliban. With any luck there will be nuclear war between Iran and Israel.”

Except for that last sentence, of course. Tel Aviv for Tehran is a trade no one needs. But it would be in keeping with this Halloween Horror Story.

A sad Barrycade story

PFC Cody Patterson, a young Army Ranger and a friend of Darkwater’s son, was one of four U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan recently, and Darkwater’s son escorted his remains home.

But Cody’s family must now scrounge for the expenses to get him buried, thanks to Obutthead and his slim-down, shut-down kabuki. The Republican House passed a bill to restore the federal money the White House cut off for such things, but the bill seems to be stalled by the petulant in the Democrat Senate.

Read the whole sad story at the links, complete with Darkwater’s photo of young Cody, a captain of his high school football team. The Oregonian newspaper’s see-no-evil version of the hassle is here.

Why we don’t win wars anymore

“On December 7, 1941, the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor was attacked. Three years, eight months, and eight days later, the Japanese surrendered. These days, America’s military moves at a more leisurely pace. On November 5, 2009, another U.S. base, Fort Hood, was attacked — by one man standing on a table, screaming “Allahu akbar!” and opening fire. Three years, nine months, and one day later, his court-martial finally got under way…it now takes the U.S. military longer to prosecute a case of ‘workplace violence’ than it did to win World War Two.”   —Mark Steyn.

The most common lie of the Vietnam wannabee

These weenies and scumbags, mostly Democrat politicians, university academics (uniformly Democrats), and white-haired streetcorner panhandlers, were mostly draft dodgers in the 60s and 70s who now crave special status in our pathetic victim culture.

So they cover themselves in the flag and pseudo-camo glory with bizarre tales of special operations, etc. And they come out of the woodwork like cockroaches on patriotic holidays like today’s Fourth of July.

They’ve done us immeasurable harm with their lies about their “service” and subsequent “remorse” and “rejection,” both mostly nonsense, though not entirely so for those of us who earned the label of Vietnam combat veteran.

The wannabees still outnumber us real Vietnam veterans by about 20 to 1, but they’re being exposed pretty regularly. Can you guess their most common lie? Find it here. Henceforth ye shall know them by their mendacity.

As they age and die off, I expect they’ll be replaced by Iraq and Afghanistan wannabees. Cockroaches multiple, you know.

The Battle Continues

Sudip Bose, friend of a friend, served in Iraq as an Army surgeon. Last time I spoke to him he was trying to get a book published about his experiences. But the book was too positive for the usual suspects of traditional publishing.

Then, Sudip was an ER doc in Midland. He may still be that. But now he’s also author of this interesting Web site, a public speaker and a conduit for efforts to help the American survivors of the Iraq and Afghanistan campaigns, especially the wounded, walking and otherwise. Visit the site, watch his video, and please consider a donation.

Free world, you’re on your own

Mark Steyn has it pretty succinct, the reason why I will try to discourage Mr. B. from following his father, grandfathers, and other ancestors in joining the American military. It lately seems more interested in slotting women into the infantry and decrying the dangers of global warming than training and fighting to win wars.

“But there are ever fewer takers for a money-no-object global hegemon that spends 46 percent of the world’s military budget and can’t impress its will on a bunch of inbred goatherds.”

That would be a reference to Afghanistan, I presume. Fits Iraq as well and, if you go back far enough, those little Asian guys who regularly kicked our asses in Vietnam. Despite what you may have heard about the politicians losing it.

We do have a lot of generals and admirals, however, and their spiffy uniforms have chest candy that runs up and almost over their shoulders. With all sorts of other shiny doodads on their chests, and pockets, etc.

Other than that, we have a lot of crippled or dead men (including suicides) who believed Washington truly wanted to win this Global War on Terror thing. Only to find out W. wouldn’t fight it as hard as he could have and Barry wouldn’t fight it at all and not only withdrew (or is in process of retreating) but even sanitized the name. And will certainly leave Israel to its fate, along with the rest of the “free world.” Nope, not a good time to volunteer.

The buck stops…elsewhere
