$150 a day, with rattlesnakes

Andyj of MyOldRV gives the up (the money) and the down (the snakes, for starters) about oil field gate guarding in South Texas, which seems to be coming back into vogue with the Trump economy.

“‘Never step where you can’t see bare ground!’ What you gotta do is stay out of the brush and tall grass because them buzztails are hidin’ rascals!  Keep ALL the area around the RV and Service Trailer down to bare ground.  Your service guy most likely has a weedeater and I keep things clean with weedkiller spray.  One other thing is to put a light under the RV that shines on the underneath and  out on your front steps and porch.  Thataway when you step out at night you can see.  In seven years I have not been on a single ranch that did not want me to kill every rattlesnake I saw but you still need to ask the ranch manager.  I tell folks to get a long handle hoe and keep it on hand by the door outside so you can chop ’em up at some distance.  Me myself, I use a heavy walking stick.  I pin their head with the stick and then reach down with my knife and whack it off.  You do have a knife in your pocket, right?”

Franken and Colbert: Two Bozos

Power Line’s Scott Johnson: “Combining stupidity with flattery, Colbert’s statement both sucks and sucks up, big league. Senator Franken, can you top it?”

Possibly. They are a pair of bookend bozos, as Power Line commenter Bill Margerum says: “Colbert is no comedian (or entertainer or astute political observer for that matter) and Franken is the village idiot who is denomstrating (sic) with each comment and question that he has no idea what he is talking about.”

Pocahontas Warren

Was watching Trump at the NRA meet on my iPhone when he derided Sen. Elizabeth Warren as “Pocahontas,” something he did throughout the nominating campaign last year. I got a good laugh out of it.

Now the lying Mediacrats at NBC want you to believe Trump was taking an unprincipled, unfair and unAmerican jab at her Native American ancestry. When it’s really a totally fair swipe at her fake native American ancestry.

The Big Ask

“AP: Can you tell me a little bit about how that came about?

“TRUMP: No, just — you know, I asked the [Egyptian] government to let her out. …[Aya Hijazi, an Egyptian-American charity worker, jailed for three years]…

“TRUMP: You know Obama worked on it for three years, got zippo, zero.”

Trump, the master salesman, asked for the sale. He just asked. He did “the big ask” from The Art of The Deal. He got it.

Our robed rulers strike again

“The judge, William H. Orrick of United States [9th] District Court for the Northern District of California, issued a nationwide preliminary injunction against the administration, directing it to stop trying to cut off aid to sanctuary jurisdictions. But the order does not prevent the federal government from moving forward on designating certain places as “sanctuaries,” nor does it keep the administration from enforcing conditions for doling out federal money if they already exist, as the Justice Department has already begun to do with some law enforcement grants.”

Why not stop funding the 9th Circuit? Let them sue to get their money back. And live off their savings in the meantime.

UPDATE: According to Mollie Hemingway at The Federalist, Orrick was a campaign money bundler for Obama in 2008 and for John Kerry in 2004. Now there’s a surprise.

The Puckerbrush Irregular

“At 4:14am this morning, the driveway alarm jangled me out of a deep sleep.  Vela Von and I snapped to and peeped out the window ’cause you just don’t rush out the door helter skelter at that hour if you are smart.”

In which AndyJ of MyOldRV surprises an intruder up to no good.

Couldn’t have said it better myself.
