Fathered by lies

Obamacare: “a debacle, wrapped in a catastrophe, shrouded in a disaster.”

Wormtongue’s signature “achievement” doesn’t even help the people it was supposed to, the low-income without health insurance. That was just one of his many lies.

And we’re stuck with it. Thanks to the crooked incompetents who are our political elite. Obamacare is a fine example of the continuing decline of the American empire. But what could you expect from the likes of Hillary, Barack, Kerry, Biden, Schumer, Boxer, Waxman, Reid, Pelosi, Kagan, etc.? Not to mention Boehner, McCain, Rubio, and so forth.

And, of course, we get what we deserve: Time was when Obamacare would have sparked a revolution. Now people just yawn and change the channel. It’s hard to get too upset about anything when you have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and air conditioning—and the entertainment choices keep proliferating.

Now I know how my grandfather felt in the 1930s watching the country being dragged down by FDR and his band of Stalin-lovers. A pox on all of them, I say, of both parties, without exception. May they never recover from the guilt and shame of skewering their country in the name of power-lust, expediency and corruption.

UPDATE:  Even the title of Affordable Care Act is a sham, as it has driven health insurance premiums up and up. There are more uninsured, too.

The carbon dioxide shuck

Almost every global environmental scare of the past half century proved exaggerated including the population ‘bomb,’ pesticides, acid rain, the ozone hole, falling sperm counts, genetically engineered crops and killer bees. In every case, institutional scientists gained a lot of funding from the scare and then quietly converged on the view that the problem was much more moderate than the extreme voices had argued. Global warming is no different.”

—Matt Ridley, author of The Rational Optimist and member of the British House of Lords.

Meanwhile, Wormtongue, the shuck’s most prominent proponent, is siccing his cronies on “deniers.”

UPDATE:  And the Dictator’s Club’s favored alarmists are getting shriller than ever.

Bye, bye Tomahawks

Not the Tomahawk Chop Atlanta Braves fans do in the face of the usual PC, maginalized-American-Indian malarky.

No, I mean the cruise missiles former President Clinton liked to throw around now and then. The Worm has cut the Tomahawks program from his defense budget.

“The cost of the Tomhawk missile program is less than $200 million per year. In perspective, that cost is less than 1/3 the cost of the hopeless Obamacare website. It is less than the cost of two foreign vacations for Michelle Obama. It is less than half the amount of money that was flushed into Solyndra…This will not end well.”

Well, we can always throw around a nuke or two. Except, uh, those are being cut, too, while Moscow likely will refuse to do the same. Push that reset button again harder, okay? Harder.

Crony capitalism

TechDirt has a notion that an honest journalist (there are some) could use to start investigating public-employee corruption: Cities that ban ride-sharing to protect their licensed taxi companies. Such as lefty Seattle.

Crony capitalism (as opposed to free-market capitalism) is about bribing pols to get them to outlaw competition—or favor one group over another. Much like Worm’s handouts to those wind and solar companies which promptly went belly-up. It’s fair to assume some of their money went back to him and his cronies or was so explicit in the deal that the money never left their pockets.

Not that we’ll likely ever know. There’s a limit even to “honest” journalism. Fear of being labeled “racist,” for instance. And worse, when their fellow Democrats are involved.

Crimea river

I still say the whole Crimea thingie is a bore. It mainly gives the snooze media something to do that doesn’t involve working. And, as Spengler details below, the American response thus far will hurt us (and Israel) far more than it will the Russians.

“Granted that hypocrisy is the mother’s milk of both domestic and international politics, but the outcry from Europe and the United States over the Russian seizure of Crimea really is beyond the pale….

“As to forceful detachment of territory from a sovereign state, Kosovo was separated from Serbia through the U.S. and European bombing of Serbia until the Serbs agreed…

“If Russia were to place an embargo on oil and particularly gas exports to Europe, the Europeans would run out of reserves in two months and then the European economy would shut down.  Russia, in contrast, would merely lose $7.5 billion of revenues.  U.S.-Russian trade is tiny so that trade sanctions by the U.S. would be meaningless…

“The elder statesmen who won the Cold War…are trying in vain to inject a note of sanity into the clown show that passes for American foreign policy on both sides of the aisle…Putin won’t take over…He doesn’t have to. He’ll wait for the West to make an unspeakable mess of Ukraine and then do whatever he wants.”

As Instapundit often says: Our country is in the very best of hands. Not.

Go get ’em, Ted

The Left is already after him, even as his supporters prepare a super PAC to fuel his presidential bid.

I’m glad he seems to be running. But as much as I still like Ted “Abolish the IRS” Cruz, I do wish he’d back off on abortion and gay-marriage:

“…we should continue to defend life and…we should continue to defend traditional marriage.”

Oh, well, Ted’s doing what he thinks is best, I’m sure. Even as his closest Republican competitor Rand Paul sees it differently: “I think that the Republican Party, in order to get bigger, will have to agree to disagree on social issues…[We have] to find a place for young people and others who don’t want to be festooned by those issues.”

Including some of us oldies who are tired of hearing about the opposition to social changes which can be restricted but aren’t going away and which opposition on can only work to elect more Leftists. Or so we think, anyhow.

Be that as it may, it’s going to fun to watch Ted (and Rand) run against Obamalot. It’s about time some one did.

UPDATE:  From PJMedia’s Roger L. Simon writing about Rand:

“Historically, the Republican Party has been just what the public thinks it is, largely a bunch of risk-averse white men who are totally clueless at public relations, even though they are on the right (correct) side of almost every issue.  Meanwhile, the liberal Democrats haven’t had a decent rational argument about anything for years, if they ever did. They ream young people, blacks and virtually every other ‘interest group’ that supports them with their policies and they still win most national elections.  What a disgraceful group of losers that makes the Republicans.”

Surely Ted (or Rand) can/will do better than another Romney or McCain.

More job-killing endangered species

Big Democrat government really, really doesn’t want a viable American economy. Not when the jobs are of the “wrong” kind and threaten to diminish the welfare and food stamp rolls that keep busy bureaucrats shuffling paper.

“The Obama Administration may have finally found a way to stop the boom in U.S. energy production. Delaying approval of the Keystone XL pipeline, maintaining export limits and discouraging refinery construction haven’t stopped a revolution that will soon make the United States the world’s largest producer of crude oil.

[So] “Washington may add a record 757 new species to the endangered list by 2018. Included on the roster of potentially protected critters are two range birds—the greater sage grouse and the lesser prairie chicken—that could severely restrict energy production across a broad swath of the American West.”

“The prairie chicken sits atop Texas’s Permian Basin oil bonanza, and the sage grouse is near the Bakken Shale in North Dakota. An Interior Department report describes the impact on the sage grouse of oil and gas operations as ‘universally negative and typically severe,’ even though modern horizontal drilling leaves a much smaller footprint than in the past.”

This new assault on fossil fuels could be more than just the usual unholy feds-Greens alliance of like-minded Democrats. You could also suspect that somebody in Washington has their hand out to the Saudis.

UPDATE: Some jobs, however, really are way beyond reproach. And some things that don’t even involve endangered species—even on your own eight-acre property—aren’t.
