Where is the environmental benefit?

So ask Native American groups angry at the White House’s continued push for more wind turbines which despoil natural beauty and kill millions of bats and birds.

“Wind farms must be located where the wind blows fairly constantly, and such locations are prime travel routes for migratory birds, including protected species such as bald eagles and golden eagles. Exacerbating the problem, wind farms act as both bait and executioner—rodents taking shelter at the base of turbines multiply with the protection from raptors, and their greater numbers then attract more raptors to the turbines.”

Meanwhile the turbines are a political shuck, providing only small amounts of intermittent electricity, generally at times when a utility doesn’t need it. Ah, but they fill the pockets of lobbyists, politicians, and wind turbine companies with subsidies, i.e. tax money. That’s the “environmental benefit” the White House really is interested in.

“Wind cannot satisfy the demand requirements of a utility unless it is backed up with fossil fuel plants and/or energy storage projects. This results in duplication of resources and additional costs, with little, if any, carbon mitigation. Further, the steep increases and declines in power delivery of wind put the reliability of the grid in question.”

All in the name of another, bigger shuck: stopping so-called man-made global warming, the warming which hasn’t been occurring for 17 years now. Except in federal press releases. Health insurance isn’t the only thing they lie about.

It’s lose-lose, all around, unless you’re one of Wormtongue’s cronies with your paw in the trough.

Lest we forget

The Miriam Carey Mystery.

Almost three months after the young mother was murdered by D.C. Secret Service and Capitol Police—victim of a police chase and let’s-all-shoot-together frenzy—we discover that she may have been innocent of any wrongdoing at all.

The police report (at the links above) also lied about how she died. It claims she was shot while in her car and “along with an uninjured child” was “removed from the vehicle.” All news media reports have said she got out of the car and ran and was gunned down, unarmed, by the police.

Yet the local liberal rag, the WaPo, not to mention Wormtongue’s “justice” department, apparently have conducted no investigation. They have simply swept poor, black Miriam Carey down the memory hole, like a piece of garbage.

Like the actor always said on the Hollywood cop show: Be careful out there.

Via Mouth of the Brazos.

UPDATE:  The WaPo, very uncharacteristically for a supposedly premier news organization, even if it does tend to be a Democrat house organ, pens an editorial that they are waiting for the cops and prosecutors to decide whether appropriate force was used against Carey. Why not do their own investigation? What are they afraid of?

FDA to save us from evil soap companies

Aren’t you proud? I know I am. Worth every penny of my tax money, these myriad federal regulators and their multiplying rules.

By Gad, the soap companies shall not advertise their soap as anti-bacterial unless they can prove it is safe and works better than ordinary soap at killing bacteria. Eventually.

From the NYTimes usual government-is-good narrative: “The proposed rule does not require producers of the soaps to take them off the market immediately. The F.D.A. has given companies a year to produce data showing that the chemicals are both safe and effective.”

So they’re bad enough to have to prove their safety but not bad enough to take them off the market right away? Sounds like an invitation for bribes. And if you like your anti-bacterial soap—as Mrs. Charm apparently does since she buys so much of it—you can keep it for at least another year. Unless the evil soapers fail to make the FDA happy. In one way or another.

And all you people working on the anti-bacterial soap line? Well, you could go on welfare. Millions have. The Food Stamp President is waiting to enroll you. Just don’t try to do it on a computer.

They could retire some of the generals

Acting secretary of the Air Force Eric K. Fanning says the zoomies will be forcing some 25,000 enlisted airmen into early retirement in the next few years. Downsizing the force could also eliminate 550 aircraft from the hangers and runways.

I realize that remotely-piloted drones are taking over some of the missions previously flown by manned aircraft, and so downsizing makes a certain sense, even if it’s most likely only the Democrats shoring up their growing welfare spending by cutting back on the military they hate so much.

But how about cutting back on some of the senior officers, especially the generals, whose salaries eat up a lot more of the personnel budget than the enlisted do. But, then, it’s always the little people who bear the burden, isn’t it?

Mooch’s ‘death stare’

I love it when sourpuss Mooch looks angry. She does it so often. There’s not a shred of diplomacy in her. Hard to believe she was once in charge of “diversity” at a Chicago hospital. Maybe that’s why she wasn’t replaced when she left. Among other reasons.

Why we can’t appease Iran

“Dying civilizations are the most dangerous, and Iran is dying. Its total fertility rate probably stands at just 1.6 children per female, the same level as Western Europe, a catastrophic decline from 7 children per female in the early 1980s.

“Iran’s present youth bulge will turn into an elderly dependent problem worse than Europe’s in the next generation and the country will collapse. That is why war is likely, if not entirely inevitable.”

ObamaCare II: The nuke deal with Iran

The question is what happens after all this leads to Wormtongue winning his second Nobel Peace Prize? Which apparently was his aim all along, unless you buy the old he’s-a-closet-Muslim idea. In which case, why is he screwing the Saudis and other Sunnis?

It’s for sure his stated aim of slowing (if not stopping) Iran’s nuke building has no more truth to it than his promise that you would keep your insurance under Obamacare.

“According to the New York Times, about as pro-Obama a publication as you can get outside of a Chicago Democratic Party newsletter, the current agreement will retard the Iranian [build-a-nuke] program only about one month.

“One month? For this we give them oodles of desperately needed cash — seven billion on the face of it but some suggest that’s floating up to twenty….

“The Iranians came to the table because of sanctions. We are now lifting them… We are also ratifying the hellacious Islamic regime of the mullahs that oppresses women, murders homosexuals and imprisons and tortures all those who oppose it. Forget human rights. What are they? America (really Obama in this instance) just wants a deal.”

Hey, that Peace Prize is no small thing. It will look so nice up on the wall with the rest of Wormtongue’s presidential trophies. I wonder if his henchthing Lurch will get to share it? Won’t Teresa be proud?

Well, until old sourpuss Harry Reid spoils the fun: Wormtongue’s political party isn’t falling into step yet.
