Abolish the IRS

What a concept. Flat-rate income taxes with a “form” on a post card. Ted Cruz’s delightful idea. Probably doomed to failure because of all the partisan Democrat bureaucrats who would lose their jobs.

Not to mention loss of the graft so many pols of both parties get backing tax favors for various lobbies. And, as we have been reminded of late, the agency’s usefulness as a Democrat weapon against political opponents, such as the Tea Party and pro-Israel charities that don’t toe Obama’s line. But what an idea, Ted, and after only five months in the Senate!

UPDATE:  The IRS is full of scoundrels whose usefulness to the people is nil.

MORE:  Here’s what the IRS is really about, helping the rest of us subsidize Obama’s brother in terrorist-state Sudan. Meanwhile, it’s being expanded to handle Obamacare. Watch how you vote if you want that operation in time to survive.

AND… Ted has a Web site now to promote abolition. Good luck, senator.

Carney is a paid liar

I’ve got to hand it to Republican Darrell Issa, he doesn’t mince words when referring to Wormtongue’s chief flack and bottle washer as a liar for hire. The fact that he was talking to CNN’s (increasingly) Fat Candy at the time may have had something to do with it. Her own Democrat liar-for-hire status is well known.

Nevertheless, White House spokesmen of both parties have been lauded in song and story, well, the Hollyweird fantasy The West Wing, anyhow, when the, uh, truth is that they aren’t really anything more than shills for the prez and his cronies.

My own pater familias was a government PR man by trade for most of his life and, while he never actually admitted lying for his bosses, he often justified the lies government tells as sometimes being necessary. Uh huh. And that’s why we trust ’em so much. Because we can’t.

UPDATE:  Choom Boom! Shooting at Issa can be counter-productive with the leader of the Choom Gang as a client, eh Plouffe?

From the NYTimes lips to the IRS ear

Getting an unfavorable mention in the Democrat’s newspaper of record is not the way to have a good day. In fact, if you’re a pro-Israel charitable group, it can lead to an IRS audit:

“They really kind of focused on us,” HaYovel’s founder, Tommy Waller, told the Washington Free Beacon regarding the [2010] New York Times story. “Then six months later we had an [IRS] audit.”

And it was probably no coincidence, because as Z Street, another pro-Israel charitable group told the Wall Street Journal what it was told in 2010 when it queried why its tax application was taking so long: …[it was] because auditors were required to inspect more thoroughly any groups “connected with Israel… to determine whether the organization’s activities contradict the administration’s public policies.”

Can’t have that, can we now? Wormtongue’s “public policies” come before any silly old thing like the First Amendment. What do you think the IRS is for? His is a government of bennies for liberals, not laws for all.

UPDATE:  Other pro-Israel charitable groups got their audits thanks to the WaPo, another reliable Democrat stenographer.

Shrinking government

The so-called “progressives” are always expanding government, especially after the bureaucrats abuse their power or otherwise screw it up. I have watched this phenom for years after every Texas tornado or hurricane.

FEMA was late again getting aid to Oklahoma (big surprise) but you can bet that instead of getting its head handed to it by Congress, FEMA will get more money and more bureaucrats to “solve” the problems. We can be sure the Democrats will try to do the same with the IRS scandal:

“The progressive answer to this is more rules and regulators, more agencies and safeguards and accountability projects. Republicans should recognize this intervention for the ridiculousness it is – creating more federal entities to watch over federal entities – and focus their arguments instead on the only solution which will actually work: removing power from the federal government and returning it to the states or the people. The only way to ensure that government doesn’t abuse a power is to make sure it doesn’t have this power in the first place.”

Read that last line again:The only way to ensure that government doesn’t abuse a power is to make sure it doesn’t have this power in the first place.”

For instance, how about a flat tax or a national sales tax? Eliminate all the discretion now given to the IRS and its partisan Democrat thugs.

Not that I think the Republicans are any more likely to shrink government than the Democrats. Indeed, they’ve proven they won’t. But they’re our last (and fading) hope.

UPDATE:  U.S. ‘crats have held up Canadian charity relief supplies for Oklahoma tornado victims at the border.

Finally, a subpoena for the Benghazi emails

It’s about time Congress got tough on the State Department, though it’s curious why they waited until Lady Macbeth left the building to do it.

U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa wrote: “The documents the enclosed subpoena covers will help the Committee understand why, although on the day after the attacks senior State Department leadership believed that Islamic extremists were involved, there were reservations about publicly acknowledging any such involvement just three days later. This issue is at the heart of the Committee’s ongoing investigation.”

As Yid With Lid says, we now know that the Obama administration lied to us and the world about what happened in Benghazi but we still don’t know why they lied to us. That’s what Issa’s subpoena aims to uncover.

Has the day come?

A day may come when the courage of men fails,
when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day.
An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down,
but it is not this day!
This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth,
I bid you stand, Men of the West!
– Aragorn’s speech, before the Black Gates

With our feckless, lying president in full retreat from the Iranian and Islamist threats, it would seem the courage of Western men has failed.  Certainly with the London decapitation in full view of a crowd of Brit men— including unarmed and apparently cowardly cops– when only a woman had the cojones to confront the killers. While the cops watched from far enough away to be safe. Disgusting.

UPDATE:  OTOH, the authorities moved swiftly to punish a few Brits making connections between the Woolwich murder and Islam on Twitter and Facebook, while pretending to know nothing about such a connection.

Similar, as Richard Fernandez notes, to the WaPo pretending that the Muslim rioters in Sweden are merely “youths” protesting the “underprivilege” of the “foreign born.” The WaPo “knows what it means and we are supposed to know what it means but we are not supposed to admit that we know what it means.”

While Swedish police, using a “non-intervention policy” with the rioters, act to stop people defending their homes and vehicles.

Lady Macbeth and her blood-soaked hands

Yeah the IRS thing is scary. But as Reason TV reports, the IRS has been used for political retribution by at least four other presidents, starting with Franklin Roosevelt. The rest were Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon. Three Democrats and one Republican.

If we had an honest federal government (you wish) we would not have an IRS in the first place nor a complicated annual income tax form with so many strokes and sticks. We’d have a flat tax for everyone. But that would eliminate a lot of jobs for the Democrats to fill and a favorite weapon against their political enemies as well as innumerable opportunities to shake down the lobby for more bribes.

Benghazi is far more important than the IRS scandal and not only because four Americans died. It demonstrates better than anything else how inept and venal the leader of the Choom Gang and his probable successor the Hildabeast are when it comes to foreign policy and genuine national security.

An American ambassador seems to have been used as an errand boy, to clean up Hellary’s mess: trying to buy back shoulder-fired Stinger anti-aircraft missiles she ordered given to Islamists fighting to overthrow Gaddafi after she realized (duh) they could be turned on civilian airliners.

Denying readily-available forces to protect the ambassador when he came under attack (and lying about it repeatedly afterwards) seems to have been done to avoid uncovering the missile operation. In other words, the ambassador (and two Navy SEALS) had to die to save Obozo’s dwindling credibility and Shillary’s political future.

Having political enemies audited is one thing. Turning your back on Americans under attack is Vietnam all over again. Or, more recently, Barry’s betrayal of our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

All we can do is hope that the otherwise-feckless Republicans don’t drop the ball on the Benghazi cover up. Or we’re very likely to get Lady Macbeth and her blood-soaked hands as the next occupant of the White House and much worse to come than selling guns to Mexican drug lords, harassment of the Tea Party and spying on the snooze media.

UPDATE: It’s been conventional wisdom for a long time that Nixon used the IRS on his enemies, but his biographers say he only tried to use the IRS. Being a hiring hall for the Democrat Party, the IRS refused to cooperate with a Republican president. Its retribution is for sale, certainly, but only for Democrats.
