Burning windmills

We already knew they were uneconomic without government subsidies. Too much maintenance required, for one thing. Not enough electricity generated for another. Now we learn they are catching fire regularly. What a stupid technology.

Meanwhile the Euros are still waiting for their wind-powered cars.

Gaza’s “innocent civilians” at play

Palestinian gunmen ride motorcycles as they drag the body of a man, who was suspected of working for Israel, in Gaza City Variously described as “Palestinian gunmen” and “Hamas thugs” in the various media that have used this Reuters picture, said to be of the post-execution of an alleged spy for Israel.

Sure look like civilians to me. Except for the lack of women and children, pretty much indistinguishable from the “innocent civilians” photos we are regaled with nowadays, though this less innocent version is several years old.

An inevitable disconnect is the West & the Dictators Club (also known as the UN) getting all bent over the deaths of these “innocent civilians” while their leaders say they were privileged to die as martyrs. Including the children whose TV cartoon characters teach them to be combatants in killing Jews.

UPDATE:  “Enough of the fear of hurting ‘the innocent’… Exactly what innocent?! The same innocent who stuffed his face with candy and wept with joy that the boys were killed? Or the one who tore people apart? Enough shielding their children with our bodies, while they shoot from behind their backs, killing our kids. Enough. Maspik.”

Another “Kill the Jews” Weekend

“Shiites and Sunnis temporarily put aside their blood feuds and entire families of Syrian Alawites and Turkish Sunnis stand in London or Berlin screaming ‘Death to the Jews’.

“Joining them are elderly Trotskyists and aging Stalinists, normally as mutually hostile as Shiites and Sunnis, who put aside their differences to feebly wave cardboard signs about the Zionist war machine.

“Fake blood is everywhere. Aspiring art students who can’t draw try to figure out new ways of intersecting a Swastika and a Star of David. Latuff cartoons are printed out along with bloody photos  of dead people from Syria, Hollywood horror movies and on the rare occasion, Gaza, and shoved in everyone’s faces.”

Read it all. It’s, you know, the stuff you won’t see in the Snooze Media today and tomorrow. Which will pride itself on “playing it straight”, i.e. without the truth.

Rockets, we need rockets

Now that the latest ceasefire seems to be in effect, so Hamas can restock and reposition its snipers, don’t you know, we need to consider some places on this side of the Atlantic that could use rocketing.

But not Austin, as J.D. at Mouth of the Brazos wants. His other choices, such as D.C. and San Francisco, would be fine with me. I would add Houston, also, home of the awful Astros. And Dallas. Just because.

UPDATE:  So much for ill-timed jokes. The missile shoot-down of the Malaysian airliner over Ukraine certainly isn’t funny, though it was bound to happen sooner or later. Twenty-three Americans killed, according to some sources.

MORE:  According to the manifest released Saturday, and available at Fox, none of the passengers were Americans. The majority were Dutch.

When the Religion of Peace isn’t

Adherents of the Religion of Peace periodically gather to throw rocks at Jews gathering beneath their mosque on the top of the Temple Mount to pray at the base of the Western Wall in Jerusalem. Why, you might wonder, would they be so aggressive?

Well, for one thing, the Jewish claim to the property is much older than the Muslim one (or, for that matter, than the existence of Islam itself) and, in addition to the longtime RoP tradition of blatant intolerance for other religions, they’re probably worried (particularly the history-challenged Palestinians) that they might lose their lease on the place.

Not that there’s much chance of it. Although a few Israeli Jews talk of conquering the mount and destroying the mosque, the Israeli government is determined to keep it open to all who claim it as holy, which includes both Muslims and Jews.

Indeed, it was Israeli Gen. Moshe Dayan, in 1967, who insisted on the sanctity of the mosque atop the Mount when Israeli paratroopers retook the old city from the Jordanians in the Six Day War. The Israelis did promptly clear the area around the Western Wall for religious Jews to use, as they had since antiquity except when the Muslims denied them. The Muslims no longer have that power, so now they throw rocks.
