The Sarah Palin administration

Super good idea to quash her seriousness deficit. I especially like John Bolton as secretary of state. Nobody takes Hilarity seriously, but everybody would pay attention to Bolton. Also Petraeus as secretary of defense.

And so on. Let them address the policy questions the overpaid, blow-dry journos like to pretend they understand. One thing seems dead certain to me. No matter how bad Barry is between now and then, no white guy is going to beat him in 2012. But a woman could.

Weed grower opposition

prop-19

Funny that in Tuesday’s downing of California’s Prop 19, the weed growers of the Emerald Triangle helped lead the charge.

“Prop 19 might have failed at the polls for a wide variety of reasons ranging from current grower opposition for fear of a price drop, to fears of commercial takeover of the marijuana trade by big business…”

So maybe it wasn’t really so strange, after all, but just the not-so-invisible hand of capitalism at work.

UPDATE:  Apparently including too much  also contributed to its defeat:

“Prop 19 failed also because it overreached. One feature attempted to protect the ‘rights’ of employees who get fired or disciplined for using marijuana, including a provision that employers could only discipline marijuana use that ‘actually impairs job performance.’ That is a much higher bar than required by current policy.”

So next time stick to the main points and eliminate all this sticky foo-fa-rah.

Boo-hoo Barney, and boo-boo Boxer

Glad the Reps have the House back (after the lame-duck Dems first ram through more trash spending and onerous regulations) but, really, are Massachusetts voters that stupid they had to re-elect Barney “The Whiner” Frank?

Guess so. And San Francisco voters Barbara Boxer? That one doesn’t surprise me. There’s always next time, as I do believe this Tea Party throw-the-bums out push will continue. Including the bums who won this time if they keep spending big bucks and passing more oppressive big-government regulations.

UPDATE:  In addition to being a disheveled jerk, Boston’s favorite butt boy is also a crook:

“This summer, the paper reported a controversial taxpayer bailout Frank arranged for a Boston bank at the center of an ethics scandal involving disgraced California congresswoman Maxine Waters, disgraced ex-state Sen. Diane Wilkerson and a disgraced banker arrested on rape and cocaine charges.

“Then there was Frank’s trip to the Virgin Islands aboard a private jet owned by a bailout billionaire. And the $40,000 his campaign took from bailout banks after he promised not to. And finally, there was the Herald video capture of Frank’s partner taunting Sean Bielat after a debate.”

No surprises here.

Dr. Kenneth Blair, R.I.P.

He was my GP, when I was reporting on the AIDS epidemic and he was one of the few non-Gay doctors in Austin who would treat people who had it. I never knew that he had the virus, but I would not have worried if I had known. It is transmissible only in blood-to-blood contact. He was only 55 when he died Sunday. Bless his good heart.

UPDATE:  More here. Note that his first wife, Carol Cody, died in 2006.

Jack Reacher, emotional incompetent

I used to read Jack Reacher thrillers. Now I see I have missed the latest two in a row. I think I overdosed on him back when he was shilling for the Democrats in denouncing the campaign in Iraq.

I’d finally realized that Jack was just another Leftist messenger from New York, a murderous one for the violence-freaks, but in the end a bore with a toothbrush who was so emotionally stunted that he couldn’t abide a serious relationship with anyone.

Holding the country together

23rdOhioI’ve always liked this old shot of some of the 23rd Ohio. Not that I fall for the notion that they were freeing the slaves. But they certainly held the country together and bless them for it.

Adios, Rangers

They lost the World Series, 4-1. At least they got to play in it and won one game. Wasn’t so long ago no one in Texas would have believed they’d ever get that far.

As for the loss, well, as Wash says, “That’s the way baseball go.” And there’s always next year. Thanks guys for the good show and congratulations on the pennant.
