She’s got his six

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, that is. The additional antidote to Barry-Biden.

Swatting flies

Funny, and interesting, stuff from the Seablogger and his myriad of commenters.

Battleshipping Barry

I passed the tee-vee room last night, on the way to get Mr. B. bathed, and saw "I still have the hat" Kerry speechifying, while Mom did her occupational duty (and her political preference) of watching the Dem dog-and-pony show. Fortunately, I had other fish to fry, so I didn’t have to raise my blood pressure the way Victor Davis Hanson apparently did. I did think to myself when I saw "Reporting for duty" Kerry that if he could be swiftboated in 2004, then, as some commenter on some blog I read put it, B. Hussein Obama, with significantly more controversial baggage, can be battleshipped. Oh, yeah.

UPDATE: This is truly an excellant beginning. McCain’s people are amazing at producing this sort of thing quickly. Hope they keep it up. Here’s another winner-in-the-making: It’s Barry’s terrorist buddy Bill Ayers’ anniversary.

Lettuce Rejoice

Stole the headline from the Wall Street Journal. Just too good. Finally the hysterics have been (partially) quashed and irradiation of fresh spinach and iceberg lettuce can begin to reduce foodborne illness. Now if the scientifically illiterate and the politically-motivated can be overcome (or ignored) the feds can get on to irradiating the rest of the veggies to prevent e-coli and salmonella outbreaks. But, well, spinach, okay. But iceberg lettuce? Does anyone still buy that crep? I suppose it’s mainly used in cole slaw and to garnish hamburgers and other fast food.

Convention-free zone

Glad to see I’m not the only one avoiding the Dem dog-and-pony show. I may break down and watch the Repub one for a while. May. May not. These things have no drama, no surprise and very little point. And the media coverage (saturation, really) is predictable. It is fun reading the Pajamas Media reports, however, because, for the most part, they’re original.

UPDATE:  Even people within a few blocks of the thing don’t care. Read to the bottom of this Lileks’ post to see what I mean.

Mac’s veep

This would be my choice, and her advantages are quite succinctly put here. And more on the former Miss Wasilla here. But I suppose it’s unlikely, given Palin’s short (two years) time as governor of Alaska. I’d also like Michael Steele, former lieutenant governor of Maryland, and could even stomach Colin Powell. But we’ll see soon enough who Mac has decided it should be. Bound to be better than Biden or Baby Barry.

Confrontation at P’oti?

Debka says so, but, well, that’s Debka, only marginally reliable. But the AP also is saying the U.S. Navy will take its next part of the humanitarian sealift into P’oti, where the Russians are entrenched and insisting they will search any arriving ship. Civil Georgia, however, says the Navy hasn’t decided whether to go there rather than to Batumi, where the USS McFaul delivered its aid. And Georgian Daily says the American embassy in Tbilisi, at any rate, is demurring. U.S. European Command has nothing on the subject.

UPDATE:  Confrontation averted: The USCG cutter Dallas went to Batumi, instead, and the Mount Whitney will go there next. But that doesn’t stop The Guardian from phonying up a dispute.
