Expecting a little rain today

Remember Goliad!

FanninThe 1936 memorial to Texas militia Colonel James Fannin and his 400 men, massacred by the Mexican army in 1836, thanks in large part to their feckless commander. Nevertheless. The memorial is said to be on the site where their bodies were heaped and burned. Best version of massacre here. Worth reading.

Texas 34, Rice 17

Wasn’t a great game. Texas could have played better. QB Garrett Gilbert, too. He had too many under-thrown passes. Hope they do much better against Tech after Wyoming next week.

These in-state games can be murder, though, even from a perennial also-ran like Rice. The undermutts just try harder when they’re playing Texas. Course Rice’s last touchdown came against the Texas second-string.

UPDATE:  The daily headlined it: Ho-Hum Horns. No kidding. Mack Brown betrayed his irritation in the ESPN story (link above) and he let more out for the daily (“I’ve got to continue to work on my patience”). So. Wyoming next. Should be another pushover. Then Texas Tech, which should not be easy at all.

Cold front and rain

The first cold front of the season? Probably. Anyhow, it’s drawing moisture out of the Gulf and producing thunderstorms and steady rain. Over an inch so far at the rancho. Been a fairly wet year. Hope it continues. Had enough drought, after a hot and unusually dry August. But LCRA’s Bob Rose says it’ll return next week.

Eddie Bernice, crookin’

It’s pathetic the way these black politicians apparently figure that their personal and racial grievances entitle them to steal from the system when they get the opportunity. “Unknowingly,” the Dallas Democrat claims. Yeah, I’ll just bet. Sort of like the First Lady’s extravagant vacation in Spain, also on the taxpayers’ dime, only on a smaller scale.

A break from Lloyd, please

While it’s unlikely that forever-politician and Texas Liberal Lloyd Doggett finally can be unseated in November, it’s interesting that his challenger, working mom Donna Campbell, is wisely running against Queen Nancy:

“A vote for any Democrat in [the] U.S. Congress is a vote to keep Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the House. This is the same Nancy Pelosi who said we have to pass bills before we can know what’s in them. This is the same Nancy Pelosi who said extending unemployment benefits creates jobs. And yes, this is the same Nancy Pelosi who just last week called for investigating Americans who are opposed to building the mosque at Ground Zero.”

She’s likewise smart to hammer home the truth that Lloyd’s campaign money come from the big-time lobbyists in D.C. whom he caters to, as a career-politician who hasn’t worked for a living since he was in college.

“I might also point out that a large portion of Lloyd Doggett’s three million dollar war chest was raised by entrenched special interests inside the beltway, while most of my contributions have come from individuals living in and around Austin….while Mr. Doggett lives a life of luxury inside the ruling class bubble. He got a pay raise while the rest of us have been tightening our belts to make ends meet.”

Good luck, Donna. We all deserve a break from Prince Lloyd.
