Rice paddies of Vietnam

I can still see a multitude of bobbing heads and raised rifles as our PFs (Vietnamese Popular Force soldiers) crossed a flooded, stripped rice paddy one afternoon in 1969. It only got me, the advisor, to the waist, which was bad enough. Always a few leeches to disconnect. Paddies were foul places to be, however like mirrors they looked from the air. Mostly because the farmers used night soil (poop) for fertilizer. Especially in war time, fertilizer was expensive and hard to come by.

Revolution in Wisconsin

“If parents want to ‘have a say’ in their child’s education,” Democratic Wisconsin Representative Lee Snodgrass sneeringly tweeted in February, “they should home school or pay for private school tuition out of their own budget.”

It turns out there was a third option: Take over the school board.  All across the state Tuesday night, conservative parents won decisive victories in school board elections, ousting liberal incumbents and sending a clear message that their communities will no longer stand for mask mandates and radical curricula.

Rule 5: Amanda Lee

The second booster

Haven’t gotten it yet. May not after hearing from an OCS classmate that he has developed heart trouble, which fits right in with some of the summaries of research I have been reading lately. Also blood clots in both lungs, which rings a bell. Sleep apnea seems to be an outlier. His maker was Pfizer and all he had was the two to start and one booster. Adverse reactions being at a minimum are no comfort when they are striking our small (under fifty) group.

UPDATE: Decided not to get the second booster. Too much controversy for my taste.

Six dead, fifteen wounded

The latest mass shooting, in gun-controlled Sacramento, California. Lefties are already blaming the NRA, which is silly, but to be expected. What more laws can they pass before they realize that criminals don’t obey laws.

UPDATE: Still six dead (three men and three women) but wounded now up to eighteen. Getting to be a return to the wild west, the country is.

They want us to suffer

They? The political establishment, says the Instapundit, i.e. law professor Glen Reynolds:

“Expensive food is also on the menu. For years, activists, environmentalists and “sustainability” gurus have been telling us that food is too cheap, encouraging waste. Well, the establishment is fixing that, too: With prices for fuel and fertilizer going up, prices for food are skyrocketing. In a reprise of the ugly Jimmy Carter years, inflation is taking off, and ordinary Americans are having to choose between eating, heating their homes and fueling their cars. Steaks are no longer for the little people — you’ll eat beans and rice and like it.”

Multi-Use Nozzle Jet Injector

Used on us veterans in the 1960s for vaccinations. As an Infantry OCS classmate writes:

“A slight tremor by the operator opened up an impressively deep divot on your arm. No longer recommended for use, as the body fluids  from your arm apparently rebounded onto the nozzle, inoculating the next man in line with the intended vaccine plus whatever was going on in you (how many classmates’ DNA are we carrying around as I write this?  Talk about blood Brothers! Yo! Bro!). “

Heh.
