Code of silence

I wasn’t impressed with Fox News commentator Bill O’Reilly’s interview of the president. O’Reilly wasn’t very well prepared to duel with a pathological liar who was bound not to tell the truth. He never has before.

Indeed, Wormtongue smiled and smiled as he claimed there was “not even a smidgen of corruption” at his IRS, and O’Reilly’s best response was to toss out a few flustered non sequiturs.

He should, of course, have then asked why Worm’s former IRS director of tax-exempt organizations, Lois Lerner, invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to testify before a House committee last spring? We all know what we should have said or done, but, unlike O’Reilly, we’re not paid to query criminal politicians.

Our new socialism

James Lileks: "Maybe I’m old-school, but ‘President fires CEO’ looks as wrong as ‘Pope fires Missile.’ Does not compute."

UPDATE: Baldilocks has an interesting take. But leaves out the question of whether the GM logo will become an O. You know, for Obama Motors. First, though, he’ll have to get his own staff to trade "up."

Fiddling while Rome burns

Amusing little article here in Columbia Journalism Review followed by even more amusing comments.

The top half of the comments are the usual remarks from the usual crowd of Big Media players or wannabees, fiddling around as though nothing much is happening to the craft other than a vexing problem of layoffs and declining profits. The bottom half is the angry audience, lured to the site by Instapundit. They are burning (and sometimes a little shrill) to let the fiddlers know that their Barrymania is going to lead to far more losses. Indeed, it may be too late to turn it around even if the fiddlers were inclined to play a new, objective tune. Assuming they still have the chops for objectivity, which is doubtful.

UPDATE: Indeed, the lickspittle reporting continues, as Iraq suicide bombings become "progress" on Barry’s watch.
