The Gazan Entity

Those hundreds of rockets that Hamas has been raining down on Israeli towns (and an Army barracks) are about to get a military response and a few civilian ones (like shutting off the air conditioning), since Israel provides more than half of the Gaza electricity and fuel. The dictator’s club at the UN (of course) decries Israel’s recent declaration of Gaza as an "enemy entity," but the White House backs it.

Bad 9/11 prediction

Instapundit, six years ago Tuesday:

"…the TV footage of jubilant Palestinians just proves what I’ve always suspected — they just don’t get it. They’ll learn. Oh, how they’ll learn…their jubilation will be long remembered. The American role as ‘mediator’ in the Middle East is over. Since — though they don’t realize it — that’s the only thing that has kept the Palestinians in the game since 1991, their future is likely to be grim, now."

Hasn’t turned out that way, after all, as the Gazan Entity’s rockets continue to rain down on Israel.

What? You expect Los Angeles Times editors to learn geography? Too mundane, too mundane.

The real blood-for-oil

It’s been so long since Bush’s speech about not tolerating governments that support terrorism that even he has forgotten it. Else why his latest call for continuation of the long-discredited "peace process" between Israel and the bloodthirsty, terror-sponsoring and promoting Palestinians? Not only that, but he sends the Palies $190 million in aid, which everyone who stops to think about it knows only goes to more arms, ammo and suicide belts. Presumably, it’s all about oil. Keeping the Saudis and Jordanians and other Arabs believing the US is "trying" to resolve the "Palestinian problem," so that our oil keeps flowing without interruptions. The oil’s obviously important, but being in the pocket of the Saudis and the Palestinians ain’t hardly. You have to wonder how much money the Saudis will be paying W when he leaves office. After all, they are one of the biggest backers of his daddy’s library at Texas A&M.

UPDATE  I’m quite wrong, says Israeli scholar Michael B. Oren in the WSJ: "The president isn’t selling out Israel."

Texas in Israel

"I believe Texans share a special kinship with the Israeli people. We are both independent-minded and self-reliant, and our history is grounded in strong stands against impossible odds." –Texas Gov. Rick Perry

I’d say that’s exactly right, and I would not join in the sniping the Texas media did about his foreign travel: to Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Turkey, Israel and Jordan, apparently trying to drum up new business for the state. We do, after all, have the eighth largest economy in the world. Though I do wonder about Rick’s man-in-black, desperado look in the official Israel government photo that ran in the daily.

Turmusim, by Treppenwitz in Jerusalem. Just a similar lupine but they sure look the same.
