The United States of SWAT

The Democrats may be cutting the defense budget and downsizing the official military but the militarization of the rest of our big, growing and greedy federal government continues.

“Dozens of federal agencies now have Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams to further an expanding definition of their missions. It’s not controversial that the Secret Service and the Bureau of Prisons have them. But what about the Department of Agriculture, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the Office of Personnel Management, the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service? All of these have their own SWAT units and are part of a worrying trend towards the militarization of federal agencies — not to mention local police forces.”

Get in their way at your own risk. Officer Friendly is a child’s fable. They are not armed to the teeth to help you.

Go get ’em, Ted

I’m behind the curve on this one. Been a busy boy lately, including trying to adjust Windows 8.1 to something I can work with without being assaulted by new buy-this, buy that b.s. with every click. But I can’t let this one pass us by:

“On the day the House Oversight Committee held Lois Lerner in contempt, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said Congress should impeach Attorney General Eric Holder if he does not indict those like Lerner for their roles in the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups.”

They almost certainly won’t, and Holder won’t for sure. Holder’s as big a crook as Lerner and their boss Wormtongue. Why Holder’s been complaining of racism lately. That’s what the really bad ones always hide behind. But it’s good to see Ted holding their feet to the flames.

Change pols frequently, like your underwear

Richard Fernandez of PJMedia on why we need to worry when our presidents and their appointees all come from Harvard and other “elite” institutions. They are poster children for term limits. Too smart for our good.

“America was founded on the notion that most politicians can only be expected to be ornery, low-down, crooks. Nobody in those days was fool enough to believe they could be Light-workers, Messiahs and create a world without guns. Thus in the Founder’s view the only way to guard against rogues was to ensure that government remained as small as possible relative to its essential jobs; to change those in office frequently and often, like we change underwear.

“The Founders saw roguery as the byproduct of high office. And so they wrote a constitution — you know, the document more than a hundred years old that nobody smart reads any more — to keep the weeds down. For they knew better than our modern enlighteneds that any politician sufficiently powerful to disarm the people is sufficiently powerful to sell missiles bought from Russia to Muslim rebels in Mindanao.

“Unless one remembers this there is no defense against crooks in high places.”

Which is why we need term limits and, to my mind, no more two-term presidents.

Cliven Bundy fights the corrupt feds

Why does Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy deserve our support? Asks PowerLine. As you might ask, as well. Here’s why:

“To begin with, his family has been ranching on the acres at issue since the late 19th century. They and other settlers were induced to come to Nevada in part by the federal government’s promise that they would be able to graze their cattle on adjacent government-owned land. For many years they did so, with no limitations or fees. The Bundy family was ranching in southern Nevada long before the [federal Bureau of Land Management] came into existence.”

We know what federal promises are worth. And the settlers soon found out. Federal fees were imposed and “environmental” regs proliferated and the BLM has been trying to drive Bundy and other Nevada ranchers out of business ever since:  “Formerly, there were dozens of ranches in the area where Bundy operates. Now, his ranch is the only one.”

These M-4 armed feds are supposed to be for us, the people. Instead, they’re for themselves. And, of course, their political masters like Democrat Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada who want Cliven Bundy prosecuted.

“The new head of the BLM is a former Reid staffer. Presumably he was placed in his current position on Reid’s recommendation. Harry Reid is known to be a corrupt politician, one who has gotten wealthy on a public employee’s salary, in part, at least, by benefiting from sweetheart real estate deals…If you need federal authority to conduct business in Nevada–which is overwhelmingly probable–do you need to pay a bribe to Harry Reid or a member of his family to get that permission?”

Do stars shine at night? Does the bear poop in the woods? Is the Pope Catholic?

UPDATE:  All of us supporters of Cliven Bundy are terrorists, says the thief Harry Reid.

MORE:  Some of Reid’s “terrorists” are in state legislatures and governor’s mansions and they’re not backing down anymore than Bundy is.

Beating on a teakettle

Miriam compares her grandmother’s Yiddish to “No Blood for Oil” and yelling “Racism” at anyone who criticizes Obamalot (more now than ever before).

“This is what bubbe called ‘hocking a chinek,’ which I discovered after arduous research, means, beating on a teakettle…”

I’m not sure why, but beating on a teakettle makes me think we’re all good and truly doomed. I knew we were in trouble before, but this just makes it  a whole lot worse.

Federal snipers?

At the Bureau of Land Management, it seems, according to PowerLIneBlog, which employed them in the recent ranch standoff:

“The Bureau of Land Management has announced that in view of the risk of violence, it is withdrawing its forces, which include snipers, from the area. (How many federal agencies employ snipers, anyway? Too many, it is safe to say.) The county sheriff negotiated the terms of the federal government’s surrender with Cliven Bundy.”

This is interesting, too:

It still isn’t clear what the crisis was all about. Rumor has it that Reid wants the land for a giant solar farm that would be supplied by a Chinese company and, presumably, subsidized by the federal government. Reid’s son is apparently a participant in the deal.”

When it comes to corruption these days, the Democrats have few competitors. Likewise the feds and violence. Even without knowing exactly what’s behind this story, as PLB says, it’s easy to take Bundy’s side. Hey, Barry, call off your dogs!

Fathered by lies

Obamacare: “a debacle, wrapped in a catastrophe, shrouded in a disaster.”

Wormtongue’s signature “achievement” doesn’t even help the people it was supposed to, the low-income without health insurance. That was just one of his many lies.

And we’re stuck with it. Thanks to the crooked incompetents who are our political elite. Obamacare is a fine example of the continuing decline of the American empire. But what could you expect from the likes of Hillary, Barack, Kerry, Biden, Schumer, Boxer, Waxman, Reid, Pelosi, Kagan, etc.? Not to mention Boehner, McCain, Rubio, and so forth.

And, of course, we get what we deserve: Time was when Obamacare would have sparked a revolution. Now people just yawn and change the channel. It’s hard to get too upset about anything when you have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and air conditioning—and the entertainment choices keep proliferating.

Now I know how my grandfather felt in the 1930s watching the country being dragged down by FDR and his band of Stalin-lovers. A pox on all of them, I say, of both parties, without exception. May they never recover from the guilt and shame of skewering their country in the name of power-lust, expediency and corruption.

UPDATE:  Even the title of Affordable Care Act is a sham, as it has driven health insurance premiums up and up. There are more uninsured, too.
