Reprise: The disappearance of American military service

A bit of Veterans Day insight, just one day late. Sorry about that:

I would not especially care to see the return of the Draft, which caught me just days after my college graduation in 1967 and sent me to war in 1969-70 and home again to job discrimination and psychological abuse.

The draft was inequitable then and likely would be again, but it would spread the burden among more of the educated than volunteering does now, to the detriment of those who do serve and, yes, even those who do not.

“The loss of the martial virtues weakens an entire culture. Whole generations begin to rate themselves too special, ‘with a special kind of hide to be saved,’ as Gen. Savage puts it in Twelve O’Clock High, to risk their careers, let alone their lives, for their country.”

Insight from an academic blogger who burned his draft card back in the day and now regrets his youthful arrogance. At least he’s not a wannabee politician lying about serving when he didn’t. A too-common phenom these days.

The bimbos retreat

Their tell-all, big-moment presser has been tabled, probably forever.

Two of the four cannot be found by a third who refuses to appear alone beside the aging fourth: the often-fired, hair-over-the-eye gold-digger from Chicago.

You know, Obamalot’s home turf, which just happens ( yeah, right) to be the epicenter of Herman Cain’s alleged bimbo eruptions.

Cain’s bimbo eruptions

Of course Herman Cain is right when he says a Democrat machine is out to get him. And he’s right to fight it. That political media machine is out to get all Republicans, particularly those who would dare try to deny the deceitful (and pro-Islamist) Obamalot a second term.

As for Cain’s women accusers (and their lawyers such as Democrat Gloria Allred holding no-questions-allowed pressers) there are no more of them nor are their accusations (notably without any proof) any more impressive than what Bill Clinton was once accused of and survived.

Of course the Democrat media largely was on Clinton’s side (calling his problems “bimbo eruptions”) while they emphatically are not on Cain’s—or any other Republican’s. But most Republican primary voters know that and are unlikely to be swayed by this latest example of the media’s preference for bias.

UPDATE:  Indeed, the largely Republican crowd at Wednesday night’s debate in Michigan cheered Cain on when he said the attacks were “unfounded accusations” and that voters were more interested in fixing the bad economy than “character assassination.”

The stupid party strikes again

The pol behind the latest attempt to get the (always happy to oblige) feds to regulate the Internet is none other than U.S. Rep. Lamar Seeligson Smith, a Texas Republican, whose legislation has been bought and paid for by the TV/music/movies industry. The Austin/ San Antonio and Hill Country rep obviously is no conservative. He’s just another opportunistic pol on the take/make.

Laughing in the boardrooms

Noted earlier we were laughing at the OWS “Flea Party.” But, hey, they’re laughing in the boardrooms on Wall Street where the so-called 1 Percent, Obama’s biggest donors (beneficiaries, all, of his “stimulus” lie), work and play.

Well, some are laughing, as the protests turn predictably violent and the Democrat media looks the other way. These mainly white, dreadlocked scruffies are the very best argument against themselves. They are going to get Obamalot re-elected? Heh. I don’t think so.

Better look out Missouri

The Texas-Texas Tech game this morning was supposed to be close. It wasn’t. Texas ran over Tech 52-20. Literally, since Texas was almost entirely about rushing. They didn’t punt once all game.

This new Texas team of many freshmen starters is getting scarier by the week. Missouri (which Baylor beat today) is next on the Longhorn hit list. Will they suffer a Tech-similar experience? Sure looks that way.

UPDATE:  Scratch that. With their three best running backs injured and their QBs under- or overthrowing their receivers, Texas had no chance to win. Only their good defense kept the score low, at 17-5.

Radiation burns, chemo poisons

And both play hell with your taste buds, your throat tissues, and your digestive system.

It’s not a pretty subject—modern cancer “therapy”—but Scott at the Fat Guy is being a blog trouper about bringing us all the gory details of his radiation-and-chemotherapy-driven dietary struggle.

It’s news you probably will be able to use someday. Like it or not.
