The Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles is set to host a boycott of Israeli academics by the American Studies Association, a group of college professors who study American history and culture. As such the hotel chain is poised to violate California’s civil rights laws pertaining to public accommodations such as hotel and restaurants.
The ASA, meanwhile, is turning linguistic somersaults trying to pretend it will not actually deny Israeli participation at its upcoming November conference at the hotel. The group, which has been censured by more than 250 American colleges and universities for its Israeli boycott, is claiming that it is only boycotting Israeli academic institutions, not individuals, and so long as individuals don’t claim to be representing those institutions, hey, they won’t be denied participation in the conference.
The twisted logic has succeeded in confusing the Jerusalem Post, but the law professors of the Washington Post blog the Volokh Conspiracy are not amused: “Per the ASA’s recently adopted policy, Israeli academics will be subject to unique exclusionary restrictions based on their national origin.”
The American Center for Law & Justice, meanwhile, is threatening to sue the hotel chain for violation of the California civil rights law, which is in essence a restatement of the landmark federal 1964 Civil Rights Act which ended legal segregation on the basis of race or national origin. A simpler, less expensive action would be to encourage everyone to refuse to do business with the Westin hotel chain so long as it plays at discrimination in its hosting policy.
SEE UPDATE BELOW: New Ebola case in New York City.
It’s our lying, incompetent louse of a president that has people fearful of Ebola. Because we know he and his bumbling, biased bureaucrats will do nothing about it expect lie and prevaricate. Or as Mark Bayless, a commenter at the Wall Street Journal put it:
“The problem is….a complete collapse in our tolerance for self serving governmental bureaucrats, starting with Obama. His kids do not attend the wretched public schools he forces on the rest of us and they do not eat the gruel that his brain dead wife demands that our kids eat. His family is not subject to ObamaCare and will be protected, at great expense if necessary, from the threat of Ebola. We have had enough of this double standard.”
And WSJ commenter Judy Smith: “What we’re afraid of is HIM.”

UPDATE: And with very good reason, Judy. We have a newly discovered ebola patient in NYC, a doctor who should have known better after returning from West Africa. Instead, he rode the subway and went bowling in Brooklyn before he came down with 103 temperature. Now his girlfriend is quarantined and our brilliant federal health officials are canvassing his neighborhood for more victims. May it stay in the Northeast, thank you very much.
MORE: New Yorkers are understandably upset and fearful—especially considering they are governed by Obola’s own party. Which is busy covering its ass before the elections. And backing-and-filling.

In Cook County, Illinois, i.e. Chicago, voter fraud is down to a science. When you vote Republican, the voting software automatically switches your vote to the Democrat. Now why couldn’t they get those Obamacare web sites to work, eh?

The most pro-Israel American presidential administration ever? So the Democrats would have you believe of President Obola and his secretive and duplicitous crew.
An Israeli newspaper’s investigation shows otherwise.
Last summer, during Israel’s battle with rocket-firing Hamas in Gaza, the administration not only held up transfers to Israel of Hellfire missiles (and all ordinary munition resupply as well) for several, potentially crucial days, it also ordered the FBI not to cooperate in helping locate a missing IDF soldier.
The Israel Defense Force now believes Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul was dead all along but Hamas said he was alive and taunted the Israeli public with its worst nightmare (a kidnapped soldier from its conscript army) with details from his Facebook page:
“On July 22, as international news reports carried Hamas’ claim of Shaul’s capture, the IDF really had no idea whatsoever what happened to the Israeli soldier. The only statement made by the IDF at that point was that Shaul was missing in action. Even two days later, the IDF still did not know if Shaul had been kidnapped by Hamas or whether he was dead.”
So, because the IP address hosting Shaul’s Facebook page was in the U.S., the IDF asked the FBI to help locate whoever (presumably Hamas) had gotten into the page. FBI agents immediately agreed to help and were moving on it when they were ordered by their own senior management to stop.
“Senior law enforcement officials, on condition of anonymity, have told me that the withdrawal of authority to the FBI to retrieve the Facebook records for Israel came from the [U.S.] Attorney General’s office,” Steven Emerson wrote in Israel Hayom.
In other words, from Eric Holder, Wormtongue’s close friend and trusted operative, a wellknown Democrat skunk in his own right already held in contempt of Congress on other matters.

UPDATE: Unidentified “senior officials in the American administration,” on Sunday (Oct. 18) denied declining to help Israel in the matter of the missing soldier, according to Haaretz. The left-wing newspaper put a right-left spin on the report in Israel Hayom accusing anti-Obama rightists of fomenting the issue. The Times of Israel, picking up the Haaretz report, added that the IDF and prime minister’s office had declined to comment on the subject. So take your pick on who to believe.

Some Longhorns fans (even, apparently, Johnny Manziel) are laughing about the Ags getting skunked 59-0 by Alabama on Saturday. I prefer to see them do well in the SEC, representing Texas the way they do. This ain’t doing well, Kevin, after previous losses to the Mississippis. Time to make some position changes.
On the other hand, it was heartening to see Texas QB Tyrone Swoopes throw two cold-bloodedly-accurate long balls to set up the game-winning field goal against Iowa State, 48-45, in the last seven seconds. A tune-up for next week against K-State, Iowa State was not, however. We could see a massacre in Manhattan, home of the new Sooner killers. At least the Horns won’t get skunked. I hope.
