War criminals allege war crimes

This would be amusing, if it wasn’t so pathetic, Hamas outrage at the UN over 18 Gaza civilians killed by Israeli artillery trying to counter the Hamas rocket shooters who’ve been bombarding Israeli civilians in surrounding towns every day for months.

This time, even al-Reuters doesn’t try to overlook the obvious.

"’Although the Palestinian civilians killed in this incident may have been killed by Israeli fire, they are in fact the victims of Hamas terrorism,’ Carmon added, referring to the militant movement heading the elected Palestinian government, which refuses to recognize Israel or renounce violence."

Given it’s the longtime anti-Israel UN, though, you can’t be sure it won’t produce something.

The Long War

He has almost as much trouble with spelling as I do, but military historian John Keegan surely is right that Israel can’t wait much longer while Hamas and Hez stockpile missiles from their various suppliers, notably Syria.

"Hizbollah has now reconstructed the fortified zone and is replenishing its stocks of missiles there. Hamas is also creating a fortified zone in the Gaza Strip and building up its stocks of missiles. Israel, therefore, faces missile attack on two fronts. When the Israel general staff decides the threat has become intolerable, it will strike."

Keegan thinks it will be before the end of the year.

Canada, oh Canada

Op-For has put up some Canadian combat videos recently, demonstrating the Canuck’s prowess in the Afghanistan campaign. Now comes Israellycool quoting from a speech by Canadian prime minister Stephen Harper on the Maple Leaf’s new Middle East policy.

“Those who attacked Israel and those who sponsor such attacks … seek what they and those like them have always sought — the destruction of Israel and the destruction of the Jewish people,” he said. “Those who seek to destroy the Jews … will for the same reason ultimately seek to destroy us all and that my friends is why Canada’s new government has reacted with speed and spoken with clarity on recent events in the Middle East.”

That about sums it up.

Explosive politico

"The IAF destroyed a weapons storage facility in Gaza City over the course of Tuesday night….The storage facility was located in the home of Hamas parliament member Maryam Farhat, well-known for her oft-expressed pride in the ‘martyr’s death’ of three of her six sons. Farhat, who goes by the nom de geurre Um Nidal, even appeared in a video with one of her sons prior to his dispatch to a Jewish community, where he murdered five people before being shot dead."

The family that kills together… Something tells me even this creature is protective of her surviving sons.

Highlights of the Holocaust

For all the deniers, Iranian and otherwise, a little update in a memorial at Babi Yar.

"The memorial event took place yesterday (Wednesday) at the infamous ravine outside Kiev, Ukraine, where the myriads of Jews were systematically machine-gunned to death. The slaughter continued for 48 hours, on Sept. 29-30, 1941. The Nazis marched the Jews from Kiev in groups of ten, ordered them to strip naked, and then machine-gunned them to death, leaving them to fall dead into the pit."

An Israeli wedding

"What all of these young men shared in common was the inevitable M-16 casually slung over a well-muscled shoulder, and an impossible level of enthusiasm and energy… broad toothy smiles and friendly shouts that gave hint to the simple, unimaginable pleasure they were experiencing at being safe and alive."

A good story here, of a soldier’s wedding in Israel, two days after the ceasefire.

Who won, again?

If Hez really won the recent dustup with the IDF, why is the Lebanese PM talking about peace treaties with Israel? Heresy! And why is Amir Taheri saying in the Wall Street Journal that Iran’s "supreme guide" Ali Khamenei is going to be sorry that he gets his news from CNN? (As if anyone wouldn’t be).
