That federal warmest evah claim

2014, we’re told today by NASA and NOAA, was the planet’s warmest year evah. (Er, make that “evah” since record-keeping began in—get this—1880.)

What we’re not told by the trumpets of the snooze media is that 2014 was the warmest year evah by the teeny-tiny measure of four one-hundredths of a degree.

Whoppingly warm, eh? Truly toasty, for sure.

And, at that tiny amount, very likely a measurement error.

UPDATE:  From Joe D’Aleo at WeatherBell:  “We know there are significant differences urban versus rural, mountain versus valley, land versus water, forest versus grassland, etc.. Trying to create a dataset with one number representing the Global Average Temperatures is a daunting task…”

But not necessarily so hard when your aim is political to begin with.

Indeed, as Judith Curry at Climate Etc. put it on Jan. 20: “Naive scientist that I am, it didn’t occur to me until last night that the timing of the NASA/NOAA [news release] on warmest year was motivated by the timing of the President’s SOTU address…”

Feds imposing illegal gun control

The president couldn’t get his own party to pass gun control laws, so he’s having his bureaucrats do it by “intimidat[ing] banks with the threat of heightened scrutiny and increased audits if accounts are maintained” by legal gun shops.

“What they’ve done is they put…gun dealers out of business, ammunition manufacturers out of business. Because in America, if you can’t bank, you can’t do business,” Rep Sean Duffy, a Wisconsin Republican congressman, told FoxNews.

The Department of “Justice” even has a name for their exercise: Operation Choke Point. They’re aided and abetted by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation.

“Brian Wise, with the U.S. Consumer Coalition, says there are hundreds and even thousands of businesses across the nation who have had bank accounts closed, and they may not even know their bank was intimidated by Operation Choke Point. ‘This is one of the greatest abuses of power that the country has never heard of,’ Wise said.”

Thanks to the Internet and FoxNews, they have now. Time to sue the bastards.

Et Tu Charlie

Concerned that your favorite president chose not to go nor to send an emissary to the world leader march in Paris?

Why should he protest the slaying of something whose behavior he’d already condemned back in 2012 to the UN: “The future must not belong to those who slander the prophet of Islam.”

Et tu Charlie.

UPDATE:  It certainly was a very political political march/show.

Much as I like Ted Cruz…

I think he should save his money and do something else with his time besides running for president. Let Romney go down in flames before the Bush juggernaut. No reason to get all excited about Ted and Alan West abolishing the IRS, the EPA, the Department of Education, etc. Pipe dreams all. Good ones, sure. But just dreams.

The Stupid Party is bound and determined to nominate Jeb and he’ll get all the big bucks. As if his Hispanic wife was going to be enough when the Dems put up the Hildabeast for their presidential candidate. And every voter with a uterus will vote for her.

As if one more white male had a chance at the White House now that Obongo has broken the ice. Get a minority (hi Ted!) or get a woman (hi Joni Ernst!) or forget it. But they won’t listen. They’ll go with Jeb. It’s his turn. And lose. Again.

The land of the free is the land of crimes

There are 4,500 criminal statutes on the federal books alone, according to the Wall Street Journal. Almost half of them have been added since 1970. More than 400 of those have been imposed since 2008. (By you know who.)

Never mind the more than 300,000 regulatory crimes that can also land you in jail. Some like to say Americans commit three felonies every day without even knowing it. The old saw that ignorance of the law is no excuse is a bad joke.

Undoubtedly for the lawmakers as well as the would-be law abiders. How many of our federal pols know every one of these laws? Any? I doubt it.

It would be grand if the new Republican congress could curb congress’s crime addiction. It would be unwise, of course, to count on it. Too bad.

UPDATE:  Just the latest regulations are expensive.

The Worm’s 12 biggest accomplishments of 2014

3. Didn’t burn the White House down.

And so forth. The other eleven are in that vein as well.

Hey, you gotta give praise where praise is due.

Miriam Carey is still dead

The thugs Michael Brown and Trayvon Martin got all the attention, the demos, the speeches, the news media and the pols…

“Meanwhile, Miriam Carey, a young black [unarmed] mother with her baby in tow, was gunned down in a hail of at least 26 gunshots by Capitol Police in Washington more than a year ago. She committed no crime, but made a wrong turn near the White House. Few facts have been publicly released, and all official video has been suppressed. Despite investigations by the police and Justice Department, no charges have been recommended against any police officers. There have been no demonstrations…”

I’m with WND writer Joseph Farah, I still don’t get it.
