Pushing back twice as hard

“Tensions continue to rise in Connecticut, as the home addresses of the legislators who voted for the [“assault” weapons] ban have been posted on numerous web sites and forums. Many of the legislators are now calling for police protective details, regarding the publication of their home addresses as a threat to their safety.”

This could become a “teaching moment” for pols elsewhere with the same plans to please their anti-gun supporters by disregarding the Constitution.

Our new gun-controlling surgeon general

With Obamalot, it’s politics all the way down. Comes now a young (36 years old) nominee for U.S. Surgeon General who would seem to have little medical experience. Ah, but he has plenty of the political kind and that’s what counts.

“Since 2008, Murthy has dedicated his career to achieving a political agenda, forming groups like Doctors for America, which has lobbied heavily for ObamaCare. Miraculously enough, that political campaign seems to have now paid off and earned him this nomination.”

Bet that’s one non-profit the IRS didn’t harass. Apparently Murthy also is a prominent anti-gunner, which is why the NRA opposes his nomination:

“A recent letter sent to Congress by ‘Doctors for America,’ and signed by Dr. Murthy, urges mandatory licensing ‘for anyone purchasing guns and ammunition—including mandatory firearm safety training and testing.’  Under Dr. Murthy’s scheme, further regulations would place ‘limits on the purchase of ammunition,’ and establish a ‘mandatory waiting period of at least 48 hours.'”

Gee, now why do I think this guy is being nominated primarily to help promote more federal gun control? At a time when thousands of gun owners in New York and Connecticut already are risking their lives defying  new state gun-registration laws. As Maryland‘s anti-gunner legislature considers a gun-confiscation scheme. And a nascent pushback from the police gets under way.

UPDATE:  Well, that’s a relief. The nomination is “troubled” and even the White House, whose principal occupant’s approval is down in 30s percent, is backing off on pushing Murthy. Under the bus with him!

Go get ’em, Ted

While the so-called Conservative Political Action Convention chatted up amnesty for the illegal (mainly) Mexicans who will never vote for the GOP, across the street at the Uninvited Convention, Texas Republican Sen. Ted “Abolish the IRS” Cruz was calling the president a fool on the international stage.

“After calling Iran the greatest national security threat, Cruz said that ‘under no circumstances will the nation of Iran ever be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.’ He warned of the catastrophic damage that could be done if Iran exploded a nuclear weapon over America’s atmosphere…

“After saying that ‘no rational person is interested in a shooting war between the United States and Russia,’ Cruz offered a variety of solutions to the brewing overseas conflict, saying America should ‘immediately sign a free trade agreement with Ukraine’ and export liquefied natural gas there, which would create jobs at home and lessen Russia’s ability to use its natural resources as ‘economic blackmail’…

He said Russia should have been expelled from the G8 for its actions in Crimea and Ukraine and the Magnitsky Act should be enforced. He also said that re-installing the anti-missile defense in Eastern Europe that Obama canceled in order to appease Putin and Russia should be another priority.”

Makes more sense than the piddle Barry has done: sending a few aging F-15s to NATO and a lone warship into the Black Sea while needlessly whacking individual Russians with visa restrictions.

Looney-Tunes science

The climate-change, wind turbine boys will do absolutely anything to promote their ridiculous, inefficient, high-maintenance product. Comes the latest laugher:

“Offshore wind turbines could weaken hurricanes, reduce storm surge.”

Ten thousand of them, to be exact. Not in the Gulf, please. We don’t need thousands of giant turbine blades flying this far inland after a Cat 5 rips into the windmills.

UPDATE:  Now that fracking has slain the peak-oil dragon, windmills are facing decreasing government subsidies across the USA and Europe so the prospect of ten thousand “to weaken hurricanes, reduce storm surge” is nil.

History rhymes

Bush Jr.’s assault on the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2001 made perfect sense after their sanctuaried client Al Queda’s murderous work in Lower Manhattan a few months before.

Likewise our 2003 invasion of Iraq where dictator Saddam Hussein had the means, the motive and the opportunity to aid Al Q as well, though our leftist federal bureaucrats never could seem to find the proof of it.

More than a decade of largely-feckless political and military operations later, Bush’s leftist successor cut and ran from Iraq and is hobbling what’s left of the American military in Afghanistan.

As pathetic as it all is, as Darkwater shows, this history actually rhymes—with Rudyard Kipling’s 1917 poem MesopotamiaKipling even called our aftermath as the leftist federal bureaucrats, their president and lifelong pols like Hillary Clinton continue their lucrative careers:

“Our dead shall not return to us while Day and Night divide –
Never while the bars of sunset hold.
But the idle-minded overlings who quibbled while they died,
Shall they thrust for high employments as of old?”

You betcha. Their leftist media pals who likewise don’t believe in military service will continue to cover for them and the American dead of Iraq and Afghanistan will be forgotten by all but their families. Some of the crippled ones can even look forward to being assaulted on American streets.

I hope the volunteers of 2001 and 2003 and subsequently will impart the lesson they learned to a new generation of would-be warriors: our government cannot be trusted and joining the micro-managed American military—for any reason other than to repel a direct attack on the homeland—is only slow-motion suicide.

“…it’s misleading to accuse Cruz of ignoring Obama and only going after Republicans.  He’s going after Republicans who have failed to fight Obama.

“When I read some of the attacks on Cruz, I wonder if at least some of the anger is the result of his tenacity.  I remember being told, when he was in the midst of his filibuster against Obamacare, that it was going to be damaging to the country and deadly to himself.  He would lose, and that would pretty much end his role as a potential party or national leader.

“He’s still standing, and he was proven right to go all out to try to stop Obamacare.”   —-Michael Ledeen at PJMedia.

Our predatory police

Four months after the Capitol police and Secret Service murdered Miriam Carey, in daylight on D.C. streets, her family’s lawyers have notified the feds they will sue for $75 million.

It won’t bring the 34-year-old mother back to her toddler daughter who narrowly escaped death from a police frenzy.

Most shocking of all is that the Democrat White House’s so-called “justice” department, along with D.C.’s Democrat newspaper—once lauded in story and film but now derisively known as the WaPo—are still mum about the murdered black mom.

Being big, male and Hispanic didn’t help Luis Rodriguez in Oklahoma when five members of the badge gang decided to go berserk. As their defenders put it, cops sometimes have to make snap decisions. We’re seeing a lot of snap decisions lately: cops shooting first, asking questions later, if there’s anyone left alive to ask.

UPDATE:  They’re ridiculously touchy, too. Chicago 13-year-old gets felony charge for hitting cop in shoulder with, wait for it, a snowball.
