Rule 5: Libraries

hangininlibraries

Just one of the many reasons I have always enjoyed hanging out in libraries. And one of the major absences of the electronic version. Although it should be said that in the eWorld it isn’t necessary to wait for serendipity. This sort of thing is now just a click away.

Getting Independent of Historical Lies

On this Independence Day, it’s time to get independent of the historical lies that have warped most of our minds. For instance, the continuing, celebratory historical narratives—despite a recent dulling of his shiny halo—that still enshrine FDR as the alleged greatest of American presidents. Yes, even before Lincoln.

Never mind our recent discovery that Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s administration was shot through with Soviet agents, making the New Deal a Communist front. Or that he singlehandedly prevented the late Nicholas Winton, savior of hundreds of Jewish children from the Holocaust, from saving thousands more.

Comes this latest reminder of FDR’s shame: 1936 Olympics track hero Jesse “Owens said, ‘Hitler didn’t snub me – it was FDR who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.’ [Owens] was never invited to the White House nor were honors bestowed upon him by president Franklin D. Roosevelt…”

Of course not. Roosevelt’s Democrat party was the party of slavery and the post-slavery KKK which was still in business throughout the “New Deal”. Later the party of Bull Connor and the fire hoses turned on MLK’s 1950s marchers protesting segregation. Whatever his personal inclinations (and they don’t seem to have been very exemplary in any case) FDR made sure to tiptoe around racist and anti-Semitic sensibilities.

But you won’t read any of this in the latest elitest biographies whose authors contend that FDR was “one of America’s most beloved leaders.” Which is pure hooey.

The sort of lie which gave birth to cultural relativism which in turn enables the Obama administration’s current cossetting of radical Muslims bent on imposing oppressive sharia law on the rest of us. What goes around, you might say, comes around.

The begging intensifies

Not the street corner panhandlers for which Austin is infamous throughout Texas. No, I’m talking about the GOP pols running for president. They only had until midnight last night to meet a federal quarterly deadline for proving their candidacy’s financial viability and they were panicking. As I’m sure they will be next quarter as well.

Their begging emails were backed up by more emails from their wives and their supporters and on and on. I figure most of them already have more money than I do and so why should I dig into my pockets to pay for their ambitions? And it’s not just the Cruz, Rubio, Paul, Walker, Jindal and others who want my money. It’s the probable nominee Bush.

Bush, the GOP establishment’s understood, pre-primary anointed, whose family wealth certainly dwarfs mine. And whose father has a direct pipeline to Saudi money via his presidential library in College Station. I wouldn’t give you a nickle Jeb. Do it on your own or don’t do it at all.

Same-sex marriage resistance begins

“[Texas] Attorney General Ken Paxton released a statement Sunday on the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling stating that county clerks, justices of the peace, judges and their employees may object to issuing same-sex marriage licences due to their religious beliefs.

“Paxton adds that while officials are allowed to choose not to issue same-sex marriage licenses, they may face litigation and/or a fine for doing so.”

Added Paxton: “But, numerous lawyers stand ready to assist clerks defending their religious beliefs, in many cases on a pro-bono basis, and I will do everything I can from this office to be a public voice for those standing in defense of their rights.”

No surprise here. No surprise at all. DOJ’s Lynch is going to be a very busy woman.

UPDATE: This is the natural result of something author Kurt Schlichter wrote back in April in Townhall: “…we have two different sets of laws, one for the little people and one for liberals like Lois Lerner, Al Sharpton and Hillary Clinton, who can blatantly commit federal crimes and walk away scot free and smirking.”

The Why And How Of Landing Rockets

“Even given everything we’ve learned, the odds of succeeding on our third attempt to land on a drone ship (a new one named “Of Course I Still Love You”) are uncertain, but tune in here this Sunday as we try to get one step closer toward a fully and rapidly reusable rocket.”

Good explanation, with pix and video, from SpaceX. Good luck, y’all.

UPDATE:  The SpaceX rocket Sunday never had a chance to attempt a landing. It blew up shortly after launch. The first loss in 19 tries. Thank goodness it wasn’t manned.

Legal gay marriage is just the beginning

So says V the K at Gay Patriot who probably knows better than us heteros. Not that I have ever opposed gay marriage. Only coercing those who do to stop. But even they can practice a little fancy footwork to avoid it. Even the florists and bakers among them don’t need to be confrontational unless they want a fight.

There are many creative ways to ignore a law. Not all of them lead to arrest.

Ah, but if V the K is correct, things could get dicier faster now that the latest judicial Putsch of our robed rulers has forced the issue on everyone. Instead of letting each state decide, as you would think the much-ignored Constitution specifies. And he’s not raising the old wheeze about polygamy, but this:

  • Banning disagreement or criticisms of gay behavior through “anti-bullying” and “hate speech” legislation
  • Mandating school curricula to include “gay history” as well as museums and monuments to be demanded to gay heroes like Harry Hay, Larry Bruckner, and Harvey Milk
  • Forcing religious institutions to recognize gay marriages
  • Churches must be forced to perform gay marriages or lose tax exempt status. (Mosques, probably not)

If this is true, it will make the rebel flag fight look picayune by comparison. And it might get even weirder, because the Left is never happy for long.

UPDATE:  American College of Pediatrics: “[T]his is a tragic day for America’s children. The SCOTUS has just undermined the single greatest pro-child institution in the history of mankind: the natural family. Just as it did in the joint Roe v Wade and Doe v Bolton decisions, the SCOTUS has elevated and enshrined the wants of adults over the needs of children.”  Well, get over it. Our robed rulers ain’t done.
