Our Banana Republic

“The whole country should be frightened by what has transpired with the collusion between the media and [the] Clinton campaign. The end result is that we are no longer a free country. How can you be free when the mainstream media and one candidate that they favor work together to destroy their opponent. Hate to sound apocalyptic but the foundation of our democracy is crumbling and the people should be out in the streets.” —commenter Kevin Barone at WSJ.com

A fair number (tens of thousands, at least) are in the streets, if you count the crowds at Trump rallies. This news media-Democrat party collusion has been going on for decades. It’s only now more blatant than ever and thus scarier than ever. And even the Dictator’s Club, aka the UN, is joining in to back Felonia.

Pass the bananas.

The News War on Trump

confession-bear-2016-10-12-at-06-27-31-pm

The Nobody But Clinton network held the Trump pussygate tape for at least 2 months, until two days before the 2nd debate, when it would do him the most damage. Pravda, of the old Soviet Union, couldn’t have done it better.

UPDATE: Nothing unusual here, really. Nor the “new” allegations of Trump’s years old molesting of women. It’s all part of the MSM’s permanent smear campaign for Republican presidential nominees. They do this every four years.

Thought crimes

It hasn’t come to this yet. Pubic shaming by the media is the preferred option. But give it time.

What are you in for?’ said Winston.
‘Thoughtcrime!’ said Parsons, almost blubbering. The tone of his voice implied at once a complete admission of his guilt and a sort of incredulous horror that such a word could be applied to himself.
….

Are you guilty?’ said Winston.
‘Of course I’m guilty!’ cried Parsons with a servile glance at the telescreen. ‘You don’t think the Party would arrest an innocent man, do you?’

Orwell foresaw it all.

The Malfeasant Media at Play

My ink-stained brethren, finally having learned to blog and now being forced to learn to tweet, are losing sleep over the prospect of The Donald whipping their beloved Progressives in November.

So they’re competing to see who can craft the worst takedown of tRump as some like to call him. Joe Bob Briggs, a funny writer who long ago mastered Twitter, shows how it’s being done.

Grizzley days these

“I think the word they are looking for is ‘grisly.’ This is the sort of mistake an intelligent high school student wouldn’t make, but those are the sorts of people who don’t seem to be going to work for outfits like CBS News anymore. It is also the kind of mistake that editors used to catch, back in the days when there were editors.”

Too true. Hard to know who to blame. In these days when even the daily farms its printing to San Antonio, its editing to Palm Beach and rumors are afoot of the impending sale of its building. But that’s newspapers. I suppose cBS has been in decline ever since old Dan Rather and his suspenders were booted from the air for reporting a “fake but accurate” story against W.

My free ebooks from Amazon

I got an email recently informing me I now have $180 in free gift card money from Amazon for buying ebooks. It was my “share” of a class action lawsuit by 33 attorneys general against Apple for price-fixing Amazon ebooks with five major publishers.

Not that I had anything to do with the suit. I’m happy with the result. I already bought a $10 book for free. But the big payoff the lawyers took home—$50 million—would have gone a lot farther. Oh, well, no surprise. I didn’t do the legal work and they did. A little disproportionate, considering I was probably out more than $180. But I did get to read the books.

And I still have $170 left to spend.

If you don’t want to study white writers, don’t major in English

“The petition whines that ‘a year spent around a seminar table where the literary contributions of women, people of color, and queer folk are absent actively harms all students, regardless of their identity.'”

This is at Yale U., which costs more than $40,000 a year to attend. For some rich daddies that might be a small price to pay to get rid of the obnoxious child who would write this stupid petition for exemption from Shakespeare, et al. Not that there aren’t plenty of second- and third-rate queer, women and black and Hispanic writers to replace them with. A few good ones. Very few.

But face it folks most English majors are not only whiners, sloppy dressers, seldom bathers and nose-pickers, they are getting a degree that will require talking their way into a job. Any job. I remember. I majored in English.
