Airport refugees in Canada

Zahra Kamalfar and her children, who were forced to hole up for 10 months in a Moscow airport because the Putin gang didn’t want to insult its Iranian business partners, have finally made it to freedom, according to Snoopy the Goon.

"I am happy that her suffering is over. We all should be happy that she has escaped the talons of Iranian ‘security’ apparatus. Hopefully, she will be able to recover and lead a normal life after the tragic years in one of the most oppressive regimes in existence."

UPDATE  I linked to Snoop because he and I had followed this. But Shlemazl had it first

130 days at the airport

Pajamas Media updates the wretched tale of Zahra Kamalfar and her children, who in fleeing Iran are still stuck in Moscow’s Sheremetyavo Airport despite efforts by, among others, American lawyers:

"What accounts for this behavior? Sources speculate both the Russians and the Iranians have reason to fear Kamalfar. She may have a lot to talk about when and if she finally gets asylum – including extreme mistreatment by the Russian airport personnel before this case came into public view and even more brutal and abusive treatment by the Iranians while she was in prison. Kamalfar’s husband disappeared in Iran under mysterious circumstances."

Somebody should ask Putin why his government is so dysfunctional on this case.

Still fleeing Iran

Snoopy the Goon links to our piece on Zahra Kamalfar, the Iranian woman, and her two children who Pajamas Media and others say is living in the Moscow airport, unable to find asylum while trying to avoid deportation back to Iran where she says she was jailed for protesting the government. Iranian officials, unsurprisingly, have not confirmed her story.

Snoop did a Web search on her and found contradictory info, including that the MSM had, up to that point, ignored the story. He seemed to find that meaningful (although he noted that European MSM has good reason not to anger the Russians who supply their natural gas for heating), and perhaps it is, but I found the Pajamas reporting impressive enough.

Pajamas, meanwhile, has linked to a CNN report from Moscow on the saga, which provides at least some extra verification that they are there–although Pajamas had done a pretty good job of that already. In any case, for the MSM version, go to the CNN report at Pajamas.

UPDATE  Snoop, who reads Russian, has now found a Russian news outlet also confirming the family’s plight, so he’s now convinced.

Fleeing Iran

Where is the UN refugee agency when it’s needed? Sucking up to the Iranians, apparently.

Iranian dissident Zahra Kamalfar and her two teenage children are trapped in the Moscow airport, trying to avoid deportation back to Iran. An international law firm is trying to help. Meanwhile the Russian authorities are cooperating with Iranian intelligence. So to speak.

The MSM is curiously absent on this story. But Pajamas Media has updates and Lone Star Times. Both have email addresses where you can protest.

UPDATE  On the day before Thanksgiving, there appears to be some progress in the case. "Pajamas Media, as of 9:10 PST today, has been informed that the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg has just issued an order barring the deportation of Zahra Kamalfar and her children from Moscow for two weeks."
