Another gun-free zone: Paris

“In France law-abiding citizens are not allowed to purchase guns, not even for self-defense. A few valiant citizens with guns could have saved a lot of people by confronting the terrorist[s], who don’t expect people to fire back at them.” —commenter Ulimatrix at PJMedia.

Yep. When only the cops and the criminals have guns, the law-abiding citizen is nothing but prey.

Mr. B. and I are going target shooting again tomorrow at Red’s indoor range  in South Austin. I’m not sure what his motive is other than curiosity and the fact that his best friend does it and hunts as well. As for me, now that it’s obvious the terror war continues to escalate, I want to get better at hitting dead center. And consider getting a CHL. They both might come in handy someday.

The Jewish Rifle & Pistol Club

Mr. Boy and I spent this morning at the Best of the West Shooting Sports range near Liberty Hill in Williamson County. It was the first meeting of the new Jewish Rifle & Pistol Club of Central Texas. Twelve experienced shooters and two novices showed up. Total membership, however, is thirty.

We all got membership cards with the engraved reminder from Leviticus: “Don’t stand by while your neighbor’s blood is shed.” Which is interesting. There is no requirement to rescue in American jurisprudence. The latter is about rights. Jewish religious law is about obligations. And probably a majority of American Jews are anti-gun. But as one of the club’s leaders expressed it in a recent issue of the local Jewish Outlook: “It’s not for everyone, but there should be someone.”

It was also interesting to meet the number of club members with Texas concealed-carry licenses. One, a Round Rock retiree, said he doesn’t carry all the time, just on special occasions such as the High Holy Days, when he wants to be ready to stop any schmuck who decides it would be a perfect time to take out a bunch of Jews. Those of the Islamic persuasion being the most likely to get the urge.

A few of us didn’t stick around to shoot after meeting everyone and having a group picture taken. The wind was strong, there was intermittent light rain and the temperature was only in the upper 50s. Happily what was initially billed as only an annual event will now be monthly. And the late fall in Texas often is warm. So next time…

The Hildabeast wants your guns

It’s one thing to support gun control.  It’s another to make it the centerpiece of a floundering presidential primary campaign.  But Hillary Clinton wasn’t finished when she latched onto the idea of opposing the NRA as a means of diverting the nation from the humiliating scandals and poll results plaguing her own bid to succeed Barack Obama. First, she announced to her wealthy supporters that ‘the Supreme Court is wrong on the Second Amendment,’ which demonstrates her opposition to the individual right to keep and bear firearms, including handguns, for self-defense. Now, however, she’s gone even further and echoed President Obama’s references to Australian and British style gun control.

It’s highly unlikely the Democrats’ soon-to-be presidential nominee would have the guts to try and confiscate the guns of millions of law-abiding Americans. Even if it were possible, which she would soon find out that it isn’t.

She’s probably just lying, something she and her consort Slick Willie are noted for. But you never know. She’s also bat-shit crazy in a party of bat-shit crazies.

Gun control in Weimar

“The Weimar Republic’s well-intentioned gun registry became a tool for evil. The perennial gun-control debate in America did not begin here. The same arguments for and against were made in the 1920s in the chaos of Germany’s Weimar Republic, which opted for gun registration. Law-abiding persons complied with the law, but the Communists and Nazis committing acts of political violence did not.

“In 1931, Weimar authorities discovered plans for a Nazi takeover in which Jews would be denied food and persons refusing to surrender their guns within 24 hours would be executed. They were written by Werner Best, a future Gestapo official. In reaction to such threats, the government authorized the registration of all firearms and the confiscation thereof, if required for “public safety.”

“The interior minister warned that the records must not fall into the hands of any extremist group. In 1933, the ultimate extremist group, led by Adolf Hitler, seized power and used the records to identify, disarm, and attack political opponents and Jews. Constitutional rights were suspended, and mass searches for and seizures of guns and dissident publications ensued. Police revoked gun licenses of Social Democrats and others who were not ‘politically reliable.’”

Moreover, “The countless books on the Third Reich and the Holocaust fail even to mention the laws restricting firearms ownership, which rendered political opponents and Jews defenseless. A skeptic could surmise that a better-armed populace might have made no difference, but the National Socialist regime certainly did not think so—it ruthlessly suppressed firearm ownership by disfavored groups.”

See why American gun owners don’t trust the government? Any government?

Krackpots in Kyle

Kyle, just down the road from the rancho, used to be a fairly sensible little Texas town. Nowadays, of course, it’s a bedroom community of Austin. And with its growth have come the leftist crackpots of public education.

Hence, at Lehman high school, which once might have been the scene of pickup trucks of youthful hunters in the parking lot with rifle racks in the back window, is now a haven for delicate little buttercups from California and elsewhere

So when one of them mistakes the word “gum” for “gun” the professional educators swing into action. “Because we are conducting the PSAT, we were able to hold students in their extended class periods to investigate the concern with little to no disruption to their schedule,” said principal Michelle Chae in a letter to parents.

On the other hand, why send a letter home if there was no problem? Why, to make sure the parents of those little buttercups don’t get the idea that they’re expected to act like real, independent, rational Texans.

Jewish Day At The Range

The growing anti-Semitism in the world, particularly in Europe and on American college campuses, has helped spawn a new interest among some Texas Jews in the care and use of firearms. Hence The Jewish Rifle & Pistol Club of Central Texas.

The club is sponsoring the first annual Jewish Day At The Range on the 25th at the Best of The West shooting range in Liberty Hill, up the road from the rancho. I plan to attend to see how many times I can put a .22 bullet from my new Ruger SR22 in the center of a paper target.

Some laugh at the little .22, but, as one SR22 user has commented, properly aimed, a .22 will kill you just as dead as a .45 ACP cartridge banger. And .22s are a whole lot easier to shoot (with almost no recoil) and the cartridges are much cheaper.

As Dr. Carson wisely said not long ago (to the inevitable chorus of denials by the usual leftist news media suspects) there would never have been a Holocaust if more Jews had been armed and competent in the use of firearms. I don’t think that’s going to be a problem from now on.

The predator must fear his prey

jeff-cooper

Gun trainer Cooper advocated carrying a Colt 1911 with the .45 ACP cartridge. But smaller prey could do just fine with a smaller hand gun, a .32 or even a .22, equipped with a laser sight. The main thing is to practice your aim regularly at a range. And to stay out of the gun-free zones championed by our idiot-in-chief Barry Hussein and his would-be successor Ma Barker.
