Fight the power

The Oregon judge commissioner who knowingly put the anti-gay marriage bakers out of business with a fine they could never pay tried to beggar them further.

“In the ruling, [Commissioner Brad] Avakian placed an effective gag order on the Kleins, ordering them to ‘cease and desist’ from speaking publicly about not wanting to bake cakes for same-sex weddings based on their Christian beliefs.”

So as not to be able to raise money from sympathizers beyond their immediate circle to help them pay the $135,000 fine for, get this, “mentally raping” the two Lesbians they refused to serve. Oh, please. But Mr. Judge Commissioner didn’t enjoin us from helping the Kleins by posting the address of their new Internet site.

Where they seem to be as defiant as ever, risking their hides anew with this wording of their Web ad: “We here at Sweet Cakes strongly believe that when a man and woman come together to be joined as one, it is truly one of the most special days of their lives, we feel truely honored when we are chosen to do the cake for your special day.”

Meanwhile, the Democrat Party, Stalinists of old and of late, are daring anyone else to try and follow suit. Why don’t we all get together and make the Kleins richer than they could ever imagine? Me, I would be more creative, but to each their own. That really is the essence of the religious clause of the First Amendment after all.

They’re going to need to pay more lawyer fees it seems and it would be lots more effective than handing our money to pols who will only go back on their promises after they’re elected. Lying, as always, and merely adding to the new state coercion. Eh?

To coin a phrase: Fight the power. Order a cake or some cookies.

UPDATE: It’s always worth fighting the left, instead of trying to accomodate it the way pathetic RINOs do. Why? Because, as Sultan Knish explains, the left is only interested in power: “The left does not care about gay rights. If you doubt that, consider how many of the left’s favorite Muslim countries have gay rights. The left has recently divided its campaign passions between gay marriage and defending Iran. Iran denies the existence of gays and hangs them where it finds them.”

Obama priority: diversity not security

“At a time when global terrorism is resurgent, when the Middle East is burning, when Russian boots are marching, when China is ramping up its military and Iran is on the verge of going nuclear, is it really a good idea to ask the CIA to concentrate on achieving a 30% minority quota in the agency’s leadership ranks?”

Sure it is, when your name is Barry Hussein Obama and going easy on ISIS and other jihadis and hard on the Kurds and Israelis is your game. After all, even NASA has been instructed to spend its time “reaching out” to Muslims. And the new CIA director is the scowling John Brennan, an Arabist, career bureaucrat and longtime specialist in obfuscating the Islamist threat.

Because turning the U.S. inside out is what our Little Barry is all about. He was, after all, a red-diaper baby, and so, as Judicial Watch has lately discovered, was his longtime chief adviser Valerie Jarrett. And they don’t seem to have lost any of it.

McCaul is just another RINO

Shoot, our very own District 10 Republican rep is trying to get the feds to create yet another expensive bureaucracy—more federal employees, more taxes, more regulations. Isn’t that a Democrat thing? It’s also a RINO thing.

“Now Rep. Michael McCaul wants to create a federal Office of Coordination for Countering Violent Extremism and house it at the Department of Homeland Security…the new bureau would be responsible for a range of activities, including ‘identifying risk factors that contribute to violent extremism in communities in the United States,’ [at] $10 million a year for the next five years, and a new post—the ‘assistant secretary for countering violent extremism’—would be created to run it.”

“Violent extremism,” by the way, is the Obama administrations preferred euphemism for the threat that dares not speak its name in his presence, i.e. the Muslim Jihad. And it’s so versatile. Whatever RINO McCaul’s intention is here, what do you want to bet this turns into an assault on gun owners, the Tea Party and any other group of conservatives the predominantly Democrat federal bureaucracy dislikes?

Thanks a bunch, Mike. We need to retire you ASAP.

Our Robed Rulers

“If the justices are going to do politics, they should be in electoral politics. If John Roberts is going to write laws on the days when he isn’t posing as powerless to write laws, if Anthony Kennedy truly believes the country craves his eccentric notion of liberty (one that condemns government restraints on marriage 24 hours after it tightens government’s noose around one-sixth of the U.S. economy), then their seats should not be in an insulated third branch of government. They should be in an accountable third chamber of Congress.”

Should be, sure. But issuing edicts is so much easier than compromising, gathering support, and counting votes. You can’t expect Kennedy, our “wise Latina,” & their two liberal cronies to do the heavy lifting.

There is a Consitutional remedy for these outlaws, as our own Ted Cruz points out, but it would require more consensus in Congress and the States than there is likely to be. Too many people like being told what to do. Or, maybe, just maybe, this will be the last straw:

“Surely it’s an unusual civil rights victory that disenfranchises the people of all 50 states on a critical issue. After a mere decade of political debate on the topic of same-sex marriage, the voters have been told that our opinions are no longer needed. Justice Kennedy will tell us what we think.”

The Democrat economy still sucks

That’s over all, country-wide. Some states, such as Texas, are enjoying a much better one. Which is no surprise, according to the Wall Street Journal.

“Employment, state GDP, labor-law and tax data from 2000 to the present yield two strong lessons. First, a business-friendly climate—market-oriented labor policies and lower taxes—is effective in raising the growth in a state’s gross domestic product and employment. Second, states that suffered the worst employment shocks in the 2007-09 recession had the most rapid post recession employment growth. This suggests that the weak national recovery cannot be explained by the depth of the recession.”

More likely, as we’ve said before, the weak recovery is due to higher federal taxes and particularly the kind of constant uncertainty that comes from Our Little Barry Hussein and his Democrat Party’s bashing big business and promising ever-higher minimum wages, both sure ways to keep employment stagnant. Except in those states where other advantages balance them out.

In which, egads, I defend Barry

Wormtongue’s being pilloried by the conservative blogs and sites, as usual, but undeservedly for once, I think, despite his admittedly regrettable attempt to turn the SC church shootings into a plea for more gun control. His remarks are being cherry-picked. Unfairly it seems to me. And I don’t say that often, as my rare readers know.

Thus spake his Earness: “At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this kind of frequency.”

I think the second sentence is what he meant to say rather than the first one, and so he added it to try to clarify what he’d just said. The first sentence being preposterous, which is, of course, his default position on most issues, i.e. to lie, but the second one was an attempt to recover by saying something that, I think, is undeniable.

Indeed, these shootings happen more frequently here than elsewhere. Although it’s debatable why they do. Is it because of our larger population or due to the wider availability of guns? Lots of Americans, myself included, own guns but would never think of mass murdering. So I’d go with the larger population than in most other advanced countries. Which is another odd choice of words. Isn’t he supposed to believe in cultural relativism where there are no “advanced” countries?

Barry’s just not a very good speaker, especially not spontaneously, as we’ve all learned over the years. Despite his portrayal as a genius debater by the lapdog Democrat news media that covers for him. He gets himself into these rhetorical corners and has only himself to blame when he can’t get out.

One more reason for Whataburger

“McDonald’s [which will test a kale replacement for its lettuce and] also says its milk will soon be without artificial growth hormones, and chicken (McDonald’s sells more of it than of beef) will be free of human antibiotics. All these might be good business decisions and as socially responsible as can be.

“They certainly pertain to McDonald’s new mantra about being a ‘modern, progressive burger company,’ whatever that means. The meaning will perhaps be explained by the progressive burger company’s new spokesman, Robert Gibbs, formerly Barack Obama’s spokesman and MSNBC contributor…”

Probably McDonald’s sales being down 15 percent has something to do with it. Meanwhile, if you just want the very best hamburger & etc. money can by, there’s the more than 700 Whataburger locations across Texas. Yee-haw.
