Bending over for Islam

I love this remark by Glenn Reynolds referring to American liberal academia perpetually bending over for Islam.

“…attacking those whom they need not fear, while fearing those whom they do not criticize.”

Fits the movie industry and the legacy Western news media as well.

Meanwhile, Germany is finally seeing the light (the one on the immigrant Muslim train at the end of the Bavarian tunnel), at least in their political talk.

Good goin’, Colt

Even the Austin locals were joking all week about how the Browns better have the ambulance ready when McCoy started his NFL career against the Steelers. Well, he was sacked five times, and blitzed by the Steelers’ bad-boy Harrison.

And he threw two interceptions. But he impressed most who saw him, with his 23 for 33, 281 yards and one TD, even if the Browns, as expected, lost the game. I still think he’s injury-prone, but time will tell on that one.

Making a game of it (and winning!)

Texas, looking very much like its old self on defense and improving on offense, leads the Children of the Corn 17-3 at the half. We have a rushing QB in Garrett Gilbert, which is good because his down-field passing is ineffective so far.

And we’ve lost one running back and two outstanding defenders to injuries. If the Horns defense can keep containing Cornhead QB Martinez, they just might win this thing. Won’t that blow the bookies’ minds?

UPDATE:  Sweet, sweet victory! Texas 20-13.

MORE:  From the daily: “…said Nebraska fan Steve Kneip of Omaha … as the final seconds ticked off the clock. ‘I thought we had a chance to beat this team. … They always seem to do this to us.'”

Heh.

You’ve got mail!

Does anyone remember this phrase? Does any software still spew it amidst the piles of spam clogging most email accounts, including mine? AOL, I suppose.

I ran across it the other day in Neal Stephenson’s Quicksilver which made me laugh, it was so out of place, being spoken by a Seventeenth century master sergeant of foot to a prisoner in the Tower of London.

Quicksilver was published in 2003 when, I believe, the phrase was, more or less, still in common usage. Only seven years. My, how time doth fly.

Blaenau-Ffycin-Ffestiniog

“…observed features of the [Martian] Melas Chasma look remarkably like Blaenau-Ffycin-Ffestiniog when viewed from the heavens.”

But it’s too late, Mrs. Charm’s beloved Wales and its ridiculous spelling have lost out in the Mars-comparison sweepstakes.

Still, there’s always Qwghlm. Minus the reefs, of course

They done it!

Mr. B. stayed up later than usual so he could watch those stRangers finally survive the first series of the playoffs, beating Tampa Bay 5-1. Now on to the, uh, next round. There’s hope at the rancho, and in Arlington, tonight!
