Blog father in trouble

The Instapundit has lost his USA Today column for one month and his employer, the University of Tennessee school of law, is “investigating” his apparent advocacy of violence in a Tweet concerning the Charlotte riots.

“Run them down,” he wrote in response to news that the rioters were blocking highways, trapping people in their cars, without regard for what that might do. Instapundit Glenn Reynolds, called the blog father for having inspired so many to take up blogging, and his myriad supporters contend his intent was defensive, not aggressive. Maybe so.

But it wasn’t the first time he’s been seen to advocate violence. A little over three weeks ago, he wrote that Venezuelans protesting the dictatorship’s roundup of anti-regime citizens should “have a contingency plan for such arrests, and it should involve killing mid-level security officials and their families.

His thousands, if not millions, of supporters protected him then, too, saying, as one did, “I do understand Glenn’s rage…” As many of them are protecting him now. And it’s highly probable that neither USAToday or UTenn knew about the Venezuela post.

It’s more likely they are strictly reacting to any threat of any kind against BLM, the Democrat- and PC-protected, Ford Foundation-funded agitators who led the protests that turned riotous in Charlotte. And in Ferguson. Riots seem to follow them around.

These are tough times with a lot of frayed tempers. And I have read and appreciated Instapundit for many years. But we should expect professors, probably especially law professors, to act like adults, and not stoop to the level of adolescents who can’t control their anger.

Not our normal plus-sized model, but a tribute to a beautiful young Colombian model who was beaten to death and dumped naked on a Mexico City street last month. Life can be so pitiless.

Snoopy’s great adventures

For those who follow the adventures of my Israeli pal Snoopy the Goon and wonder where he’s gotten to the last few days, he’s in the outback of Australia with the Mrs, about 800 km from Brisbane.

“We are in Australia with our daughter, gallivanting in the boonies and photographing birds and other animals. I hope we’ll survive the experience – the regime reminds most of all an army boot camp, the chiefs are really fanatics of bird photography.

“The country is amazing in all respects, wildlife being only one of them. It appears that Australia is a nanny state second to none. A lot of rules, regulations etc. Cigarettes, for instance, are not on display in the places that sell them, the procedure is somewhat furtive, like buying narcotics…

“…and here is another curious item: the tipping in restaurants and other situations is not a done thing here.  I am not a sociologist, but the result is terrible service in the restaurants. At least this is an obvious one. Slow, mix-up with orders, no attention to the timing of the dishes etc. During a breakfast in a similarly upscale eatery one of our group didn’t get his order at all, in spite of the waiter been reminded twice. When our guide went to complain, he was told that the kitchen is ‘very busy’!

“We were told that the waiters’ salaries are good enough so they don’t rely on tips. You can easily deduce the result.”

Trump, our unelected (so far) president

Some of the usual suspects are giving his staff credit for engineering Trump’s meeting with Mexico’s president Enrique Pena Nieto. They should read Trump’s The Art of the Deal and Don Surber’s Trump The Press. It’s much more likely it was The Donald’s idea to take Pena Nieto up on his invitation before the Hildabeast did.

“President Peña Nieto invited both Trump and Clinton to meet with him to discuss immigration, and now it will look sort of like a pathetic game of catch up if Hillary accepts and meets with him second.”

The cool thing is that Trump came away looking, as he did when he beat Obama and Clinton to flooded Louisiana, and riotous Milwaukee, like a president. One uncowed by lack of political experience or humbled by the usual name-calling put-downs from the lapdog Democrat news media.

Not only that, the immigration speech he followed it with played up an angle the lapdogs have ignored. A less-permeable wall than the one we already have (yes, Virginia, we have a wall; it’s called a fence) would do more than help diminish if not stop illegal immigration. It could put the drug cartels out of business. They need our market and if they can’t get to it in sufficient numbers…

Turns out the cartels are what Pena Nieto is most concerned about, so he and Trump had common ground to stand on, whatever El Presidente’s feeling about illegal immigration. It has been, after all, a safety valve for Mexico’s ruling class, bleeding off the wretched poor who might otherwise stage another revolution.

Adds the Instapundit: “He’s turning her into Jeb, isn’t he?” Indeed he is.

The best visuals of the Olympics, to my non-athlete mind. Better than the women swimmers. Better even than the gymnasts, most of whom are children. These are not children.

Coyotes

Not the human trafficers across the Texas-Mexico border called coyotes, but the animal kind. City of Austin is telling neighborhood associations the animal kind are becoming plentiful and to watch out for them wandering into yards in search of food and water. And then preying on small pets let outdoors.

“Haze coyotes when seen,” a city news release says. “And always supervise small pets when outside. Hazing keeps these adaptable animals wary of humans and less likely to hang around. Yelling, waving your arms, spraying the animal with a hose or tossing non-edible objects near it will encourage it to leave.”

Shoot. And I thought the Californicator invasion was the main thing we had to worry about.
