The wartime cartoons of Dr. Seuss. Who knew?

Already wondering how bizarre my flight to Maryland and Virginia in early October is going to be? No shampoo can be carried on, for instance, or bagged in the hold? New rules to uncover before the flight. Wear loafers or deck shoes since you’ll be taking them off now and then, in memory of Richard Reid. All this for the niece’s wedding and chance to see old Vietnam comrade. Worth it.
Hence my interest in this Jerusalem Post piece on Israeli airline security becoming more acceptable in the US. Israeli methods stress that a mere hunt for a weapon in pointy object, shampoo or shoes is fruitless. One must remember that the person is the weapon. I can’t say it made me feel much better, since few details are revealed (Well, of course.-ed. One can dream. One can dream.) but it’s a good overview and a reminder to make sure the will is in order. Air travel is more like 19th century stagecoach, train and steamer travel every year, in terms of the potential dangers–including diseases, albeit different ones–and assorted unpleasant outcomes.

The best 9/11 remembrance video. Simply the day as it unfolded. No politics.

The boys at Op-For are having fun ridiculing Iran’s new (old) fighter, said to be better than an F-18. But the consensus is those tail feathers are merely attached to a Vietnam-era F-5. An F-22 Raptor wouldn’t need to come closer than five miles to shoot it down. But I suppose when you expect the return of a major religious figure from the dead, jet fighter performance isn’t the point of your war.
Slick Willie is demanding ABC either change the content or pull its upcoming 9/11 movie. Touchy.
"In a letter to ABC boss Bob Iger, Clinton refuted several of the miniseries’ assertions, including that he was too preoccupied with the Monica Lewinsky sex scandal to care about Osama bin Laden."
Well, Monica certainly must have been distracting him from something.
BTW, I reserve the right to call Big Bill "Slick Willie" because I voted for him both times, and made excuses for Monica. Him getting caught out at the end selling pardons was the last straw for me.
UPDATE Could be Big Bill knew his men would roll over and play dead, if this report that ABC is editing per request is true.

And now the party has joined him. They really have no shame anymore.
It’s always best to read the president’s speeches in transcript, via the White House. Then the only filtering comes from the reader’s own politics, instead of several other political sensibilities and layers of partisan "context."
An excerpt from this lengthy, but engaging "national strategy" of the war, before the Military Officers Association of America:
"Just as we must take the words of the Sunni extremists seriously, we must take the words of the Shia extremists seriously. Listen to the words of Hezbollah’s leader, the terrorist Nasrallah, who has declared his hatred of America. He says, ‘Let the entire world hear me. Our hostility to the Great Satan [America] is absolute… Regardless of how the world has changed after 11 September, Death to America will remain our reverberating and powerful slogan: Death to America.’"
Well, that was a while ago, back in the days when Nas felt safe enough to come out his bunker. I suppose when the Israeli blockade ends, and no more F-16s with Stars of David on their wings are flying over Lebanon, he’ll emerge from his hidey hole once again and let us hear more of his wit.
This is something not often heard.
"’This sentiment of denial, that sort of came as a fever to the Muslim community after 9-11, is fading away,’ said Muqtedar Khan, a political scientist at the University of Delaware and author of ‘American Muslims.’ ‘They realize that there are Muslims who use terrorism, and the community is beginning to stand up to this.’"
