Very nice, indeed

President Bush is basically a nice guy, which he proved more than once when he was governor of Texas. Which, of course, is way too nice for the rude, undereducated, overmedicated slugs of the MSM. So it’s always a pleasure to see it when he cuts loose on a supercilious one with both barrels.

Iraq victory

I confess that it makes me a little nervous to hear President Bush predict that the Iraq campaign will end in a victory. (The BBC has him already proclaiming victory, but, as we know, they are often fact-challenged.) The Dems, of course, already portray it as a defeat. Neither view seems entirely accurate. It certainly is the gentlest war this country has ever been in–fewest friendly, enemy and bystander casualties–despite lasting five years so far. I would expect it to take a lot longer, especially since we have tolerated, instead of eradicating, enemy sanctuaries in Iran and Syria. But even the media, when it is honest about it, knows the Iraqi people want us there. And it could very well turn out to be better for us, in the long run, even than bringing peace to Germany and Japan. Because, after all, Iraq’s is the region where we get much of our oil, and whatever we may think of the politics of oil, our economy and our lives depend utterly upon it.

The Texas primary

I’m not sure who will win the March 4 Texas primary, where early voting began today, and I can’t say I really care. I think either Democrat candidate is, as I have said before, imminently beatable–Hilarity because she has Bad Bill in tow, and Barry (the name Obama went by in high school) because he’s a pure lefty populist-socialist whose only compelling asset is his race. Half of it, anyhow. Some think Huckabee could beat McCain, but we’ll see. I don’t understand why so many Republicans are throwing in the towel against the Dems before the race even begins. Because our former governor, GW Bush, is so unpopular? Nonsense. You could be pardoned for believing that, given that the MSM harps on his negatives every day, but, hey, they have done that for eight years–including the day after he won re-election in 2004 by five million votes. As for Texas, the Democrat primary may get the lefty press ink but it’s just a sideshow. No way, their nominee will carry this state in November. Huckabee might do well in the primary, but I believe McCain will prevail, here on March 4, and here again on Nov. 4 and in the rest of the country.

UPDATE: I have been asked whether I, like this fellow, intend to vote in our open primary for one of the Dems, just to keep them unresolved until their convention. I thought about it. But I can’t do it.

Bush hits a homer

In getting North Korea to agree to let Americans dismantle its nuclear weapons program. Of course, the MSM isn’t spinning it as a victory, just W allegedly following that foreign policy genuis John Kerry.

Where’s the beef, George?

"The Bush Presidency is running out of time to act if it wants to stop Iran from gaining a bomb. With GIs fighting and dying in Iraq, Mr. Bush also owes it to them not to allow enemy sanctuaries or weapons pipelines from Iran. If the President believes half of what he and his Administration have said about Iran’s behavior, he has an obligation to do whatever it takes to stop it."

Less talk and more action would be a good idea, both for the present and for the future.

The gang that can’t think straight

The porous CIA, the gang that can’t think straight, either is handing out secrets to their favorite reporters to make political hay, or this is a lie. Either way, it may get some Americans killed, as the outraged commenters note. ABC news, of course, couldn’t care less, so long as it can sell advertising.

UPDATE  Power Line, which I see the Left likes to call "Power Tool," thinks Bush could have had this "leak" made on purpose, for his own reasons, but Republican prez candidate Romney is incensed.

Support for milblogs

President Bush addressed the Milblog Conference, here, but Badger 6 notes the new regulation suggesting frontline Army blogging may be imperiled, still stands.
