Shucking the blog

Andy of MyOldRV, post-gate guarding in the shut-down Eagle Ford fracking field and wandering ever since has considered stopping blogging.

“I have heard from lots of y’all these last few weeks mostly inquiring if all was well. It is, make no mistake. It is VERY well!  I am just running way down below that invasive and offensive radar as I possibly can.  Sometimes, late in the still evening when Little Blue is shut down for the day and the Jim Beam is out on the counter and Tuco the Dog is laying at my feet,  I toy with the idea of shucking it all.  No blog,  no continuing sharing that began six years ago with that first blog entry.  I think about it ever more often but it is not time.”

Naw. Never would be too soon. Happy Trails!

Eight bullets, in the back, for a busted taillight

Once more, we have a trigger-happy cop and a dead black man whose “resisting arrest” was running away. This time there’ll be no long, drawn-out palaver or grand jury to be manipulated.

Thanks to a bystander’s iPhone video of the incident, the cop has been charged, straight-up, with the murder of Walter Scott.

Texas senate okays open-carry

I still think open carry of firearms is a bad idea. Now the Texas Senate has passed a bill authorizing open carry of pistols—but limiting the right to the 800,000 people who already have concealed carry licenses. At least the limit would be wise.

“While most states allow some form of open carry, Texas, Florida, New York, California, Illinois and South Carolina still ban it.…License holders would have to carry their weapon either in a shoulder or belt holster with a choice to conceal the weapon or not. Business owners would still have the right to ban weapons from their premises, and open carry would not be allowed on college campuses.”

Then they did pass the campus-open-carry bill. Of course, they still have to pass the Texas House and then a joint committee reconcile any differences between the bills before a final vote could occur. And then Gov. Abbott would have to sign them into law. So there’s plenty of hope left that they won’t become law in Texas.

Explosive recycling

“The Serbian government asked people on Tuesday not to dispose of hand grenades and other munitions in the garbage, hoping to minimize accidents as it imposes tighter controls over privately held weapons.”

And to think that, if it wasn’t for Mrs. Charm, I wouldn’t even bother to recycle.

Our alleged “violent society”

Leave it to the police chief of leftist Madison, Wisconsin, to come up with dishonest excuse for the latest police killing of an unarmed young man, as troublesome as half-black Tony Robinson may have been beforehand:

Given the ever-increasing violent nature of our society, we train diligently on the use of force. A plethora of time is given to non-lethal alternatives and tools. Deadly force training include countless reps of disengagement, movement, distance, and cover.

“Furthermore, we incorporate numerous training exercises where the outcome is predicated on ‘no shoot’ outcomes…While we are always looking to adopt best practices in how use of force outcomes can be improved, we will not be departing from the same standards that govern police use of force across this state (and country). . . ”

Despite the lowest violent crime rates in decades country-wide. Miriam Carey could not be reached for comment.

El Presidente tries to ban ammo

ar15pistolin.22LR

Barry, ever intent on turning the country into a banana republic without the bananas,  couldn’t get his own party to ban the semi-auto AR-15 rifle, the most popular hunting and target-shooting rifle in America. So he’s going to try to executive order some of its ammo out of sales.

Which apparently is mainly intended to affect these semi-auto AR-15 pistols, though their effectiveness as weapons would seem to be restricted by their size. They’re too big and bulky to be of much use for anything except target shooting. ‘Course if open-carry becomes common (not) toting one on a strap over your shoulder could scare the hell out of the unarmed. The NRA, the GOA, and many pols, meanwhile, will be fighting the attempted 5.56 ammo ban. Even the police are opposed to it, saying the weapon is no threat to them. Too hard to hide.

The attempted ban is hard to understand considering there are other types of AR-15 ammo such as the .223. Unless it’s just one more brick in the Progressive wall aimed at eventual gun control: “It will, for example, inhibit the development and use of rifle ammunition containing non-lead materials, even as efforts are afoot both at the federal and state levels to impose bans or restrictions on lead ammunition.”

Otherwise it’s just the usual over-reach from His Earness.
