Israel-bound

Well, it’s official. I have bought the airline tickets for my solo trip to Israel in the fall. Planning to spend about ten days with my good blog- and Skype-friend STG who has offered to show me around. I’m looking forward to the visit, though not the trip itself.

Indeed, it brings to mind these lines from The Jade Owl, a good adventure yarn I recently finished: “He viewed the twenty-hour haul to China like a middle passage—voluntary bondage in the hull of a modern metallic slaver.”

Just so. Fortunately, the flight to Israel (counting the in-country one to the East Coast first) is only thirteen hours. But the principal is the same. Meanwhile, I am collecting the necessary documents for my first passport since I was a college student in Germany back in the Dark Ages. Hope to have that done by July.

IAF at Red Flag

This looks like a Mirage from the side, but, judging from the belly air scoop it’s probably a stretch, two-seater F-16—one of the birds Israel would use to attack Iran, if such became necessary. As it might, thanks to our feckless, pro-Muslim president. Anyhow, here it’s a pair of IAF birds at the Red Flag war games over Nellis AFB, near Las Vegas, to which all allied air forces are invited.

Goose-stepping Wookies

Those Iranians and their Gazan acolytes are really a hoot. You just don’t know fear until you’ve seen the Iranian wookie suits on parade. Apparently they think these hula-skirts-gone-beserk will be good camouflage when their day of military reckoning comes.

Forgetting all those airborne IR sensors cutting through to the heat of the matter. The Gazan string version is even more pathetic. It’s hard to take these people seriously, even under the best of circumstance. I’d say there’s a better than even chance they will turn their new nukes onto themselves.

Happy Birthday, Israel (and Mrs. Charm)

Mrs. C.’s fiftieth coincides with Israel’s sixty-second. Israel’s celebration will be noisy. Mrs. C.’s will be muted, a bit bemused, in keeping with the shock of having so many candles, a veritable blowtorch. Shhh. We have to keep this low-key.

The phony “peace process”

It doesn’t offer even the illusion of hope because first, says Palestinian journalist Khaled Abu Toameh, the Pals must make peace with themselves:

“Dismantle all the Palestinian militias, start building Palestinian infra-structures, solve the Palestinian-Palestinian problems—and only then, sit down with the Jews. Obama thinks the ball is in the Israeli court. That is not true.”

But, hey, maybe we shouldn’t confuse Obamalot and the leftists with facts. They’re having too much fun hating on Israel.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Jay Rubin, CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Austin, in his latest newsletter, has an appropriate reason why some Gentiles, especially, need to pause and honor the millions of innocent Holocaust dead this April 11th:

“… the end of the Holocaust [was] the beginning of a process to memorialize victims, rebuild shattered lives, punish perpetrators and educate bystanders.  The process … is no less important in an era when the leaders of Iran threaten the Jewish people with genocide and a local letter writer in Friday’s Austin American-Statesman portrays Israelis and ‘Zionists in America’ as modern day Nazis advocating ‘a final solution’ for the Palestinians.”

Even those without ignorant views could benefit from a close reading of such as this recent article about a survivor and this fine, older book by another. Or a careful look at these surviving children. Or the banality of evil in the satisfied grins of these real Nazis, SS taking a break from another hard day of murdering—not an Israeli or a Zionist among them.

Obamalot’s latest move against Israel

“…workers at the Dimona reactor who submitted visa requests to visit the United States for ongoing university education in Physics, Chemistry and Nuclear Engineering — have all been rejected, specifically because of their association with the Dimona reactor.”

WordPress is fighting my effort to link to the source of the above, so I’ll put it here, I hope. Obamalot’s move may also be related to this.  Commentary from Roger L. Simon.

UPDATE:  The White House and the State Department are denying it, saying the Maariv newspaper story is inaccurate and there’s been no visas denied.
