Barry and the reverend

Barry may get the nomination, sure enough. But I doubt he can survive Rev. Wright who is fast becoming Rev. Wrong. When you lie down with racist bigots, Barry, you get up with fleas.

MORE: Cobb does a great job, in this post and the comments, of explaining why there are Rev. Wrights in the black church and why they aren’t patriotic or even equality-minded, stands that may have a place among their parishioners (in what’s been called Sunday morning’s "most segregated hour") but aren’t going to play to patriots furious over Wright’s "God damn America" line. And they will vote against Barry in the general election, unless he can find a way to explain. Which seems unlikely to me. This sure doesn’t look like enough.

Egg on its face

Its collective face. The NYTimes. In the transcript, especially when their reporter asks McCain "Why are you so angry?" it looks bad. But this video of the confrontation makes it clear the question was a phony, the whole incident staged for the effect in the print transcript of that one query. McCain is annoyed, sure, but clearly not angry. Putting the egg on the NYT’s face. Where it belongs.

Wow. The Associated Press bares its bias on the "incident," calling McCain "Senator Hothead." These guys must be really upset to see Barry and Hilarity losing face with their infighting. Time for slime. Watch the video. See for yourself how despicable the media is on this. They can’t squirm out of it this time.

It’s Rezkorama!

Who needs the MSM? All we need is the Chicago news media and the blogs. Damage control, Barry, damage control.

Prosperity unimaginable

I always enjoy Victor Davis Hanson, but never more so than when he’s comparing America’s present to its past:

"Our 1972 Olds 98 (my dad bought it used) in terms of reliability, comfort, ease of driving, and safety was a relic, a deathtrap, a clunker compared to a 2007 Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. None of these considerations appear in statistics about income, unemployment, purchasing power, etc. After all, how do you measure the value of a lap-top with wifi, or the notion that you can sit at Starbucks and have a 10-million volume library at your fingertips? What does one pay for that privilege?"

He mentions a 1930s family with its wood-burning stove and prize-possession radio. Reminded me of my Mississippi grandmother, who still had both in the mid-1950s. I wonder, though, whether Americans today don’t just take their affluence for granted and get upset when they can’t afford more? Making the entitlement "promises" of a Barry or Hilarity attractive.

Hilarity vs McCain

Well, she did win the popular vote in Ohio comfortably, and creditably in Texas, though I suppose Barry’s still ahead in the delegate count. Makes no nevermind to me who wins, though. I still don’t think either one can beat McCain’s experience, reputation, and charisma of competence. And I’m happy to say my vote contributed to his Texas win, instead of Hilarity’s as trickster Limbaugh wanted it.

The Citco boycott is working

Keep it up. Cut into Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez’s budget. Keep his troops and tanks at home.

Dirty tricks

The Dems have done it, I’m sure, and the Republicans, too, from time to time. But publicly encouraging Republicans to vote for Hilarity in the Dem primaries in Texas and Ohio, to keep her and Barry in a nomination battle–like big-mouth Rush Limbaugh is doing–is really foolish. Not to mention unethical. No wonder his influence is said to be declining.

UPDATE:  National Review Online, at least, says it seems to have been a significant factor in Barry’s 48 percent to 51 percent loss of the popular vote in Texas. But nobody in Barry’s camp is yet blaming Limbaugh. Some evidence, anyhow, of Limbaugh’s mini-vast right wing conspiracy.
