Good luck, Ted

The racist Democrat operatives of the news media already are on your case, not even 24 hours after you announced for president. You’ve already become NPR’s “white hispanic,” second to George Zimmerman, killer (in self defense) of the thug Trayvon.

What amazes me is how many Hispanics let them get away with this. Not every Hispanic is brown, as some of the whiter ones will quickly remind you. And they’re white because their ancestry is full-blood Spanish. No Indio.

But it won’t bother Ted. He’ll just use it against the Democrats. He may not win the nomination but it will be fun watching him kick ass trying. Go get ’em, Ted.

UPDATE:  Althouse:  “This is a truly powerful speech. Just brilliant.” The thing about Ted, for those who don’t like him, is that he offers one of the very few chances we have left to stop the continual growth (and intrusiveness) of the federal government.

MORE:  The daily called the speech a “pitch,” the headline writer unable to control his politics. No surprise there.

AND:  To the New Yorker, Ted’s an “uppity loudmouth.” Well, he is a Texas senator. Swagger comes with the job. And the guaranteed disdain of NYC leftists.

Texas senate okays open-carry

I still think open carry of firearms is a bad idea. Now the Texas Senate has passed a bill authorizing open carry of pistols—but limiting the right to the 800,000 people who already have concealed carry licenses. At least the limit would be wise.

“While most states allow some form of open carry, Texas, Florida, New York, California, Illinois and South Carolina still ban it.…License holders would have to carry their weapon either in a shoulder or belt holster with a choice to conceal the weapon or not. Business owners would still have the right to ban weapons from their premises, and open carry would not be allowed on college campuses.”

Then they did pass the campus-open-carry bill. Of course, they still have to pass the Texas House and then a joint committee reconcile any differences between the bills before a final vote could occur. And then Gov. Abbott would have to sign them into law. So there’s plenty of hope left that they won’t become law in Texas.

That Jihadi camp near Sweeny

There’s an update on Mamoudberg, we’re told, just off Brazoria County Road 3, about 63 miles southwest of Houston. But we should probably wait to hear from J.D. at Mouth of the Brazos who lives in Brazoria County before we get too exercised about it.

Federal law is choking the fracking boom

Looks like low oil prices aren’t the only thing costing folks like Andy their jobs down in the Eagle Ford. It’s not Obozo, much as he and his Green base would like to quash the fracking boom. No, says the WSJ’s Holman Jenkins, it’s the 40-year-old hangover from the 1970s oil embargoes: laws banning export of American oil.

“Oil has been one of the few boom industries in Obama’s America, creating a disproportionate share of new jobs. Among many stupidities, very light petroleum known as a condensate can be exported if it happens to come out of a gas well. If the same material comes out of an oil well, it can’t be exported without special permission. Ultra-light crudes account for a high proportion of booming Eagle Ford Shale production in Texas. Such crudes are especially coveted by Asian refiners, which means domestic producers are leaving a large premium on the table.

“Who wins? Domestic refiners get artificially cheap oil to run their plants. An industry mythology claims consumers also benefit thanks to cheaper gasoline. Don’t buy it. Gasoline flows freely in and out of the country, so its price is set by the world market.”

One thing’s for sure, as the oil shale jobs are cut back, down in the Eagle Ford of south Texas and way up in North Dakota, the Obozo Economy is going to get a lot worse. Not that he or his greedy party care. They have theirs.

Enjoy the hills, Andy

Andy, of MyOldRV, is finally out of the gate-guard business down near Cotulla. His frackin’ gig of two years and seven months has succumbed to low oil and gas prices. Good for us drivers but not for oil companies and such.

Andy smartly took off for the western Hill Country, for a little vacating. He’s pointedly not saying exactly where. It’s pretty out there, and will be more so once the bluebonnets start unfolding. When this damn cold weather loosens its grip.

Victory or Death

Alamo-Illustration2

Gary Zaboly’s good drawing based on historical evidence is a good intro to today.

It’s traditional in these parts to read this aloud today, the 2nd of March, which is Texas Independence Day. Even big-Lefty Gov. Ann Richards did it when she was in office.

Commandancy of the Alamo

Bexar, Feby. 24th, 1836

To the People of Texas & all Americans in the World– Fellow
Citizens and Compatriots–

I am besieged by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna–I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man–The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken–I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls–I shall never surrender or retreat.

Then, I call on you in the name of Liberty, of patriotism & everything dear to the American character, to come to our aid with all despatch–The enemy is receiving reinforcements daily & will no doubt increase to three or four thousand in four or five days. If this call is neglected, I am determined to sustain myself as long as possible & die like a soldier who never forgets what is due to his own honor & that of his country–Victory or Death.

William Barret Travis, Lt. Col. comdt.

After 179 years you can still “hear” some of the old Alamo fight in this Deguello bugle call of No Quarter. The dictator’s troops played it before their final, successful dawn assault on March 6, 1836.

Blacks and Hispanics: oil and water

J.D.’s post over at Mouth of the Brazos about his Hispanic wife’s run-in with two black women at Walmart is illustrative of the way these two groups often don’t get along. I’m sure there are exceptions. Howsomeever.

“The black women ‘asked her where something was. When she told them she did not work there, they got irate. Said, ‘Why don’t  you [f ‘ ing] Mexicans all swim your ass back across the river?….’

“She replied, ‘Why don’t your people get back on the boats in chains and head back to Africa?””

I did leave some parts out. Like what J.D. says is the missus’s normally apologetic attitude towards blacks. What the heck. You can read that part at the link below. I just think the foregoing is a lot more reflective of reality. That is if everybody was as quick with the comeback as J.D.’s wife.

Southerners love blacks more than Northerners do. Nobody in the world hates them more deeply than Southerners, too. Quoting the always-candid Southern writer Barry Hannah.

Hispanics/Mexicans are cool. Most of them work. Nuff said.
