Taxation is Theft

Taxation is Theft: a new meme sweeping the Internet. Especially when the taxes go to politicians and bureaucrats who use it for their cronies and pet schemes.

No wonder the FCC wants to regulate what we can say on here. And the IRS wants to punish conservatives for daring suggest major changes.

I’m Libertarian!

According to this presidential candidate poll, I am. Which I warn you will take about 15 minutes to complete, unless you’ve already thought about most of what is asked. I had not.

My own answers led to four Libertarians I never heard of: Austin Petersen, Gary Johnson, John McAfee and Marc Allen Feldman. Pity they have no chance.

Of the more likely candidates I side best with our Ted Cruz, followed closely by Trump. The Hildabeast is 30 points south of Trump in my poll results, and Bernie is 32. I don’t side with her on any major issues and him only on some foreign policy ones. Not a surprise.

Via Curmudgeonly and Mouth of the Brazos, who both came down with Cruz first.

Driving or texting?

It’s not what you think. Not another one of those Don’t Text and Drive sermons.

It’s the observation of the father of one of Mr. B.’s chums. He noted that his 16-year-old son has no particular interest in getting his driver’s license. It reminded me of how slowly Mr. B. has been about moving through the end of his driving lessons. Putting the last ones off. Doing them once a week or every ten days.

My friend said when he and I were this age, we needed that driving license to get out of the house, to see friends, to go to the movies, to get out from under the parental thumb. Whereas nowadays, he said, they have private phones to talk and text with, Netflix to stream movies on, Xbox to play multi role player games with their friends, while talking to them on headsets, amid all the comforts of home.

Why go out? Why drive? Especially in Austin’s godawful traffic?

I suppose they’ll be too old for the real-life virtual reality games that are coming. That generation might be even less interested in getting a driver’s license. If unpopular public transportation can’t save the environment from the automobile, maybe the iphone and the Internet  can, eh?

Stupid, or lazy, Millennials

“Now Americans aged 16 to 24 rank at the bottom of a 22-country evaluation of numeracy, literacy, and technological problem-solving.

“Poor student performance should be no surprise: America’s family structure is falling apart. Nearly 30% of non-Hispanic white children are born out of wedlock, as well as 53% of Hispanics and 73% of African-Americans. When Reagan took office, 18% of all American births were to unmarried mothers. By 2014 the figure was above 40%.

“Catch-up ball doesn’t begin to describe our predicament. We need nothing short of a great national turnaround. There are two Republican candidates who made clear from the outset that it isn’t business as usual — Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. Another Romney wouldn’t be relevant.”

And Spengler, aka David Goldman, prefers Our Ted. Millennials, however, will almost certainly vote for the Hildabeast whose policies will continue the decline.

Ink

Ink is one weird movie, hard to explain, even harder to appreciate once it’s over because the plot is so trite. But you don’t really see the plot until the end. The way it’s structured you’re more or less constantly trying to figure out what’s going on.

The visuals, however, are stunning, especially the appearance of the, what? The evil ones? With their glass-pane faces and glowing goggled eyes? Director/writer Jamin Winans has a weird mind. But he’s produced a captivating story. Right up until the very end when you realize it was rather pedestrian all along.

I did like the fact that I was able to watch it on my Amazon Fire tablet, avoiding the house of the sticky floors. How many stars on the Stanleymeter? Three. Try the trailer first. It sucked me in. You might like the movie more than I did.

Our Ted’s problems

Five of them, according to the National Enquirer (enquiring minds want to know). Not the best source but their headlines sure grab the attention.

Seen in the checkout line at HEB: Cruz’s Five Secret Mistresses. And, uh, a reference to “Pervy Ted.” Over a closet tryst. In a closet, that is.

Trump, naturally, is making the most of it. Bad enough our Ted is getting whipped by a New Yorker. But this? Boy, I bet Heidi has a lot of questions.
