Fathered by lies

Obamacare: “a debacle, wrapped in a catastrophe, shrouded in a disaster.”

Wormtongue’s signature “achievement” doesn’t even help the people it was supposed to, the low-income without health insurance. That was just one of his many lies.

And we’re stuck with it. Thanks to the crooked incompetents who are our political elite. Obamacare is a fine example of the continuing decline of the American empire. But what could you expect from the likes of Hillary, Barack, Kerry, Biden, Schumer, Boxer, Waxman, Reid, Pelosi, Kagan, etc.? Not to mention Boehner, McCain, Rubio, and so forth.

And, of course, we get what we deserve: Time was when Obamacare would have sparked a revolution. Now people just yawn and change the channel. It’s hard to get too upset about anything when you have enough to eat, clothes to wear, and air conditioning—and the entertainment choices keep proliferating.

Now I know how my grandfather felt in the 1930s watching the country being dragged down by FDR and his band of Stalin-lovers. A pox on all of them, I say, of both parties, without exception. May they never recover from the guilt and shame of skewering their country in the name of power-lust, expediency and corruption.

UPDATE:  Even the title of Affordable Care Act is a sham, as it has driven health insurance premiums up and up. There are more uninsured, too.

Illusion versus physics

A tragedy in Tennessee Monday reminds me how close I came to being crippled or killed back in 2006 when I took on gravity and my 3,000 pound Jeep. Guess who won.

I  interposed myself between the Jeep and a Suburban it was slowly rolling towards to save myself (and my insurance record) some extra expense. I was pushing really hard on the Jeep but it wasn’t stopping. Either I thought I was Superman or I was conditioned by the ordinary illusion of effortlessly handling a heavy machine in everyday use. Physics wasn’t impressed.

Instead of being crippled with a crushed leg, I was saved by a passerby who opened the driver’s door, reached in and set the parking brake. I was doubly fortunate in having forgotten to lock the door. That part of my stupidity worked out really well.

I only hobbled around for a few weeks. I still wonder what I was thinking to even try it, and I thank G-d for my good fortune. This poor woman died in her vain attempt to stop her rolling Toyota.

Abortion Barbie is ready for prime time!

WENDY DAVIS: My paraplegic opponent**, Greg Abbott, doesn’t understand my struggle, “hasn’t walked a day in my shoes.”

There’s a gaffe for the ages.”

Via Instapundit & Althouse.

**Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott—Davis’ opponent for governor—has been a paraplegic in a wheelchair since an accident in 1984.

UPDATE:  Now her slogan is “Stand With Wendy.” Fat chance. Lefties have such a talent for shooting themselves. Abortion Barbie’s candidacy was goofy enough. Who could have imagined that she and her dipsy supporters could turn it into a clown act.

The Left loses its, uh, mind

One of the establishment Left’s favorite house organs, The Atlantic Magazine, is calling for the arrest of Republican John Boehner, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.

So poor wittle baby Obumbles won’t have to negotiate with the “Extreme Right” as the liberals always call their political opponents. Good luck with that.

Although with a corrupt president who has most of the news media (including the perpetually federally-funded NPR), the IRS and the FBI behind him, you never know. Talk about a constitutional crisis. It would make the wittle baby’s federal shut-down theater look like Romper Room. Come to think of it…

Meanwhile, El Paso’s ABC affiliate station’s reporters can’t find a single local resident who has successfully signed up for ObamaCare. At least they’re looking, eh?

Embarrass Obadboy, get audited

“…Carson says the Internal Revenue Service started looking into his real estate holdings following his comments against the White House at the National Prayer Breakfast in February.  Carson says he had never had a problem with the tax-collecting agency until he spoke out against the president. Eventually, the IRS conducted a full audit against Carson and found no wrongdoing, he said.”

Coincidence? Sure, you bet.

This is what happens when most of the news media, the “Justice” Department and even the FBI are in the White House bag.

And it’s not like Obadboy didn’t warn us what he would do, way back in 2009. Now we see why he likes Putin and the Iranian Mullahs so much. He’s a wannabee dictator.

Then, and now

The UT Tower sniping has pretty much faded from local memory, but one aspect of it should be remembered for how things worked in 1966.

“After the first fifteen minutes, the sniper was pinned down by students and other civilians who’d spontaneously flocked to the university area with deer rifles.”

People were trusted, then, to do the right thing. Some didn’t, of course, but many did. Nowadays we’re all lumped in with the creeps who don’t. And we “shelter in place” like cowards while waiting for the police to arrive. Only to find out that their first priority is to go home safe at the end of their shift.

A similar Austin incident now would probably have a bigger toll than 1966’s seventeen dead and thirty-two wounded, all in those first fifteen minutes before the deer rifles spoke.

Via Instapundit, who agrees with a reader comment that lefty Austin is no longer a real part of Texas. Maybe, but I can’t think of a city in Texas today (or anywhere else in the country, see the Navy Yard massacre) that could now replicate Austin’s civilian defenders of 1966.

Of proportionate response and so forth

Crawford42, a commenter at Instapundit, has a good one I will repeat:

“Lefties have this bizarre idea you can ‘tune’ the level of violence to get the result you want. The result is rhetoric about ‘shots across the bow’ and ‘just muscular enough.’ They also have a child’s faith in how Hollywood depicts violence, with unarmed men (and small women) taking out hordes of heavily armed soldiers, guns shot out of peoples’ hands, etc.

“The result is the ‘redefinition’ [Obongo & pals are seeking re Assad]. They’re trying to find just the RIGHT LEVEL of violence to get the result they want, without actually engaging in anything resembling war fighting.”

And, of course, it won’t work. Too little and they’ll only get a sneer. Too much and they may get more than they bargained for in response. Either way, it’s a fool’s game probably based on the wellknown Lefty aversion to military service, hence military reality.

Although I remember President Nixon (who did serve in WW2) doing the same thing in incrementally bombing North Viet Nam, following LBJ’s lede. That worked so well.
