GK for saint?

From a 1921 interview British author G.K. Chesterton gave the Cleveland Press:

“The men whom the people ought to choose to represent them are too busy to take the jobs. But the politician is waiting for it. He’s the pestilence of modern times. What we should try to do is make politics as local as possible. Keep the politicians near enough to kick them. The villagers who met under the village tree could also hang their politicians to the tree. It’s terrible to contemplate how few politicians are hung today.”

Q: How can you tell when a politician is lying?
A: His lips are moving.

These days some Catholics want to make GK a saint. Works for me.

The genius of the New York Times

NYT1924.jpg

Reading of (not actually reading, I have better things to do) the NYTimes’ latest sneer at Sarah Palin reminded me of the above bit of their journalistic genius. What prognosticators they were and are! They condemn her lack of experience while they puffed Barry, the candidate with even less experience, and she was only running for vice president. Ah, but, you see, he was in the right party and he went to the right school.

The gang-on continues, with AP devoting eleven reporters to what Sarah said in her new book (which I ordered and expect to have this week). As she notes, eleven reporters could do a lot of important work, but… Naw, too hard.

Blaming the messenger

Undercover journalism has always been controversial. But it was the mainstay of 60 Minutes for many years. Works best, though, if your expose isn’t political. Exposing ACORN is not good for your legal health.

Miss Universe

I notice that even Instapundit, venerable libertarian blogger extraordinaire, has recently added a little sex to his aggregated links from time to time. Power Line has been doing it forever with their Miss Universe nods, complete with biggerizable thumbnails. I won’t go that far on this family blog. But I will link to them. A little spice is nice.

Guilty of fishy emails: Me, too.

"…the White House recently invited loyal citizens to report when they receive ‘an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy’ to the official e-mail address flag@whitehouse.gov. Loyal citizens are to report fishy comments to Linda Douglass, someone who looks suspiciously like Krupskaya [Lenin’s wife], or Nurse Ratched."

Via Power Line.

Doctor Zero also has a good post on why some of us so look forward to next year’s congressional elections. Which, of course, is why Barry and the Dems are hurrying to pass everything they want now.

Going negative

The trend is clear, and it’s opposite to what Big Media, still wallowing in adulation mode, would have you believe. Won’t be long now before the Strongly Disapproves outpace the other guys.

The country he loves

BarryFlag.jpg

So he said yesterday, anyhow, in the speech reviled by historian Victor Davis Hanson. The phrase reminded me of this picture and Barry’s, at the time, seemingly little protest against lapel flags and the old hand-over-the-heart when the anthem is played. However, after learning that he listened to anti-American, anti-Israel, anti-white screeds every Sunday morning for twenty years, I have to wonder who he really is. His anti-war stance turned me off before his questionable messianic persona surfaced, but I still liked the boldness of his race speech at first read–even when he threw his white grandma under the bus. (In the process, lying about her.) But I evidently missed some things. Mickey Kaus lists a few critical ones.
