Golf in decline

Mr. Boy, whose interests appear and disappear with startling regularity, had best hasten to “the good walk spoiled.” It seems the activity that consumed his grandfathers and which he also briefly took to a year or so ago is in danger of disappearing before his adolescent interest revives:

“…about every number coming out recently regarding the state of the sport is a negative, with millennials — as in, young people, as in, the future of the game — in particular abandoning, or having no interest at all in [it].”

Too busy settling in to their parents’ basements, presumably, those parents who still have basements, thanks to our mendacious president’s economic sideswiping of the middle class he and his fellow Democrats proclaim to adore.

At least one person won’t be sorry to hear this news. Akaky of the Passing Parade has had enough of golf already.

Mysterious Pluto’s true mystery revealed

nh-color-pluto-charon

Just about the time you think NASA’s groaning bureaucracy can groan no more, along comes a triumph to make it seem almost vivacious again —even if the triumph was managed by outsiders. And, in bringing distant Pluto (on right with moon Charon left) into closeup for the first time, the achievement reveals more mysteries than it explains. Making another distant (in miles and in time) visit likely, which should keep the groaning going for another decade or two.  (Click to biggerize.)

The 12th Man vs the 12th Imam

While they’re busy building nuclear bombs under an appeasing American president’s new agreement, the Iranian mullahs need to finally own up to a flaw in their theology.

Their hidden 12th Imam is a corruption, a foolish misunderstanding of the 12th Man at Texas A&M University. That’s why the 12th Imam is hidden. He’s a long way away from Iran.

Now that they’ll be getting all the nukes they want, plus billions of American dollars to help them buy conventional arms to keep up the terrorism they support worldwide, the least they can do is admit their theological mistake.

It’s time for them to bow to the superior Aggie concept of the 12th Man.

“Obama negotiates like a Care Bear”

I’d post this video if I could figure out how.  For now you’ll have to go here to see it. Don’t miss it. I’m pretty sure it’s a Spanish parody. If so it’s a pretty accurate one.

Terrorism in Tennessee

Another blood-thirsty jihadi, another sha’ria lover and wannabe kiddie diddler, goat-f**ker and wife-beater. And four dead Marines and a dead sailor at a military recruiting center.

More talk and bureaucratic promises you can bet will come to nothing, swept under the federal rug by the usual suspects. Since, as Gov. Jindal says, we can’t defeat Muslim evil without first recognizing that it exists. More raucous decrying of modern leftist practice of putting up gun-free signs—effectively inviting killers not to worry about armed self-defense—while declining to surreptitiously allow arms inside.

Reminded me of when I managed Army recruiters in 1970-71 from a 4-state recruiting command headquarters in West Virginia. None of us were armed, even at that time of heightened anger at the military over the Vietnam War thanks to lying public testimony by the likes of John Kerry.

But we were not stupid enough to advertise the fact to every idiot who might come calling—like everyone from Navy and Marine recruiters to kindergartners is forced by stupid politicians to do today. Damn their eyes!

UPDATE:  The jihadi schmuck might have been directed by ISIS. More. And you can probably thank both of them for a continuation of this noted increase.

MORE:  Meanwhile, the Democrat news media and the bureaucrats pretend the killer’s motive is still a mystery. Does anyone respect these idiots any more? Anyone with a grade-school education? They have no shame. At least Ted gets it.

Democrats promote income inequality

The Democrats love to harp on income inequality and pretend that their polices of more taxes, more spending and more regulation will somehow bring the cure that even Soviet communism could not. So it’s refreshing to hear Carly Fiorina explain why they lie:

The truth is, Hillary Clinton’s ideas create more income inequality. Why? Because bigger government creates crony capitalism. When you have a 70,000 page tax code, you’ve got to be very wealthy, very powerful, very well connected to dig your way through that tax code. So, she made to cry [about] income inequality, [and] what I will continue to point out is the fact that every policy she is pursuing will make income inequality worse, not better, crony capitalism even worse, not better. And meanwhile, we will continue to crush the businesses that create jobs and middle class families.”

Our mendacious president has really done a number on the middle class he claims to care about. As if it were more than a mere slogan. And a subsequent eight years of Ma Barker, as I prefer to call Slick’s cuckold, will make it even worse.

James Anderson’s Elevation Quartet

Elevation

My violin teacher’s latest project, performing the other day at Central Market South in Austin. Their style has been described as “swing jazz,” though they mostly play straight eights. They play a few standard covers such as Black Orpheus but mostly James’ original compositions: Altitude, Nocturne, Waffle, etc.

He’s on the violin. The others, L to R, are guitarist/composer Alan Retamozo, drummer Brennan Howell and bassist/composer Phil Spencer. Elevation refers to James, Brennan and Phil being from Colorado. Here’s an audio sampler of their work on four of James’ compositions: Waffle, Soho, Mountain Time & Tag Team.
