Ban Air Conditioning in Federal Buildings

What a, uh, cool idea. Idea being that the feds got so big and so out-of-control because of air conditioning. If those mausoleum-style office buildings of theirs were sweat factories, there’s be a whole lot less interest in occupying them.

Besides, eliminating air-conditioning (or making it so expensive that it effectively eliminates it) is what Wormtongue’s administration is after with its bans on coal and oil for producing electricity. All in the name of combating dubious climate change. The Democrat wing of the ruling class should set a good example for the rest of us. Believe it when you see it? Me too.

UPDATE:  Instead, Lurch wants to ban our air-conditioning. Of course he does. A threat to the planet, doncha know. Not his, you understand. Not the air conditioners of the ruling class. Oh, no. Just ours.

How and why the warmists are wrong

From JD at Mouth of the Brazos:

“All the climate change (global warming) freaks are basing their doom predictions on are COMPUTER MODELS. If there is one algorithm in their model that’s wrong, or one regulatory factor omitted, the model isn’t worth a fart in a whirlwind. I’ve seen the same thing in doing science at Dow. It’s why predictive behaviors in any system have to be taken with a humongous grain of salt.”

The very idea that science could accurately model the climate is pure bullshit only impressive to suckers.

The Climate Prosecution Club

The First Church of Climate Change is not only threatening to put dissenters in jail, it is prosecuting companies and private think tanks that don’t come to the progressive altar, genuflect on bended knee and sing hallelujah with the rest of the choir.

“Mr. Walker belongs to this climate prosecution club and so he unleashed his subpoena attack on CEI, as well as on DCI Group, a Washington-based PR firm that represents free-market and fossil fuel groups. His demand for a decade’s worth of papers on climate research is a form of harassment. The process is itself punishment, intended to raise the cost of speaking freely on climate policy lest it invite legal bills and other political headaches.”

Land of the free? Increasingly not. Home of the brave? That remains to be seen.

“Rather than play defense, the targets of the climate police need to fight back with lawsuits of their own.” Hallelujah!

Too much science is bullshit

“Maverick researchers have long argued that much of what gets published in elite scientific journals is fundamentally squishy — that the results tell a great story but can’t be reproduced when the experiments are run a second time.

“…Over the course of four years, 270 researchers attempted to reproduce the results of 100 experiments that had been published in three prestigious psychology journals. It was awfully hard. They ultimately concluded that they’d succeeded just 39 times.”

And it’s not just psychology that has a problem. Climate science anyone? So the next time King Barack or one of his minions says the science is settled, you’d be wise to be skeptical. Even if his worshipers want you thrown in jail for doubting his Earness.

Wildflowers in South Texas

“My flower garden ain’t much to look at huh? Under the drip from the fresh water fill on the NO Princess Palace gives it just that teeeny edge necessary to survive in this harsh environment.   I got an irritating habit of forgetting the water is on when I fill the tank and many times there is some blow by.   The wildflowers herald the start of Spring down here in South Texas and today was the first day to swap over to the summer uniform.”

Meaning shorts, vented shirt and closed-toe sandals. I’m surprised we’re actually ahead on the wildflowers and me on the shorts. Might want to try a vented shirt once the heavenly broiler gets turned up, but that’s a few months away yet.

Three feet of global warming and plastic bags

My friends in the Shenandoah Valley have had about all the global warming they can stand this weekend. Richard T., Mr. B’s godfather and my old Vietnam bud, spent his time driving his vineyard’s tractor equipped with snow plow trying to save his neighbor’s prize bull and cows from burial under three feet of drifting snow. Meanwhile, as our Little Barry Hussein prepares his executive orders supposedly involving climate change:

“I also anticipate lots of dumb laws and regulations that will greatly diminish the convenience of everyday living, even more so than that stupid plastic bag ban my municipality enacted a few years ago. Though a soothsayer I am not, I predict such legislation will have a ripple effect across the world’s economies, resulting in increased unemployment, higher prices, and a less enjoyable standard of living overall.”

Oh, yah. As usual, however, Austin’s plastic bag ban wasn’t about the environment, but graft for the ruling party. The Democrats, of course. I was reminded of that the other day when I asked for a plastic bag at HEB, meaning the 25 cent red job they sell now for folks (like me) who refuse to carry European-style shopping bags like good little drones of D.C.

Instead the young clerk handed one of the old-style free plastic bags which now cost, get this, $1 each. Had to specify the 25 center. Astounding? Only because you don’t understand our crooked politics that masquerades as environmentalism.

Cold winter ahead

Never mind the climate lies from Paris and the White House, nor the warm December we’ve been having so far in Central Texas, the cold is coming. Boy, is it coming, according to WeatherBell Analytics forecaster Joe Bastardi:

  • Overall, a snowy, colder than normal winter is expected in the South and East
  • Core of winter will be later rather then earlier
  • December could be very warm with February very cold
  • El Niño is a big influence but not the only factor

Snow here would be a minor miracle. It happens occasionally but only just. But in so generally warm a climate, a bitter cold and wet month (i.e. February) would be plenty impressive enough.
