Aggie Band

Ah, the smell of drycleaning in the morning. We’re going to miss seeing the Aggie Band this year, as they will not be marching up Congress Avenue to the Capitol since Thursday’s game is in College Station. Pity, we rather enjoy seeing the latest members of the 9/11 generation. Senior boots and all.

Vince is back

The 2005 champion Longhorn was back tonight when the Titans took down Houston 20 to 17. VY’s shifty running on third downs for consecutive first downs, and his long passes were spectacular. That, combined with the determined rushing of RB Chris Johnson, gave the Titans an electric combo. Not to mention kicker Rob Brionas’ big leg. Vince is now 4-0 as the Titans’ starter with, surely, more team wins to come.

Tuscola Kid: Winningest College QB

Texas QB Colt McCoy, leading a 51-20 thumping of Kansas last night, became the winningest quarterback in college football history. The Horns will play Nebraska for the Big Twelve title. And, almost certainly, play the winner of the SEC title for the National Championship. Quite a night.

Is Vince back? Maybe, maybe not

After the Titans’ second third consecutive win Sunday:

"Pairing Chris Johnson and Vince Young in the same backfield is turning into a very potent combination."Associated Press

"Vince Young is still Vince Young — an inconsistent performer who is at best a second-string quarterback in the NFL."Scout.com

Anyhow, it’s nice to see them talking about you again, VY. Good luck.

TCU runs over Utah, 55-28

I caught the first half of the Texas-Baylor game, until the Horns had forty points. Baylor has always been the doormat of the Big Twelve and this year, despite a promising young QB (until he was injured) was no exception. So I waited for and watched and enjoyed the Texas Christian and Utah game. Very evenly matched, though you wouldn’t know it from the final score. Unbeaten TCU was just sooo much better. Their new uniforms are cool, too. I hope they get a BCS bowl this year. They certainly deserve it.

Texas 35, Central Florida 3

Appropriate score at the end doesn’t reflect the slow start of the Longhorns offense in the first half that had UCF ahead 3 to 0 at the end of the first quarter. That was incredible, given the way Texas jumped out to 21 points in the first quarter against OK State, a much better team than U. of Central Florida.

I could see the Horns dropping to third in the BCS rankings tomorrow, especially if Alabama beats LSU. In fact, in that scenario, I could see Alabama jumping to first. Since Florida is only playing Vanderbilt, the SEC’s doormat. With the Iowa loss, however, it seems the Horns are still on track for Pasadena.

Texas 41, Oklahoma State 14

Fun tonight dividing time between watching Texas whip OK State and passing out candy to the little goblins. Got a few high school kids this year, but mainly little ones accompanied by their parents. Mr. B. and two of his friends went off in costume with Mrs. C. to canvas the neighbood and, as usual, came back with a disgraceful amount of candy. It will be stale by January, their eyes always bigger than their stomachs. Almost too old for this anymore, they are.
